I had high hopes for this product, and in the beginning it performed admirably. Alas, it was not to last.I purchased this product to add it to my various fire-lighting implements, and I had no interest in the 'Zippo' style arc lighters which are a bit impractical for my needs.The box it comes in was very neat, well presented and secure. However the instructions, which are printed on the underside, are obviously written by someone with a very basic understanding of english. Fortunately it's just enough that you can get the gist of it.First use of the product was easy and intuitive. Experimenting with a variety of ignitable materials, I found the lighter could get them all to flame. Anything that a regular lighter or match can light, so will this as long as you can catch it in the arc between the prongs. The only thing I didn't test was a firework fuse, but I imagine it should work.Charging is also simple. A standard USB connection is used, and a green LED shows status (on for charging, off for finished).Operation was fine for the first week, and I followed the advice on the instructions (don't use continuously for more than 10 seconds, clean the prongs etc). After that, it started to go downhill.At first it became intermittent, sometimes not igniting until after a few presses of the button, or not at all unless coaxed by bringing the prongs closer together. Then it began to lose it's charge much faster than what had been previously seen when first used, progressing to the point where it would turn on fine after a charge, but would do nothing when I came back to it an hour or so later.Now a month after I received it, it refuses to charge. Instead of a constant light to show it's charging, it flickers with varying frequency. I can only imagine either bad internal design or poor choice of electronics have lead to this result.It's a real shame, because when it worked it worked well.I would wait until the manufacturers sort themselves out before committing to a purchase.Will be returning for a full refund.

Having a very big candle habit and going though gas candle lighters pretty quickly, I was delighted to come upon this ingenious gadget during an online search for a longer lasting product. It works like magic - even my husband was impressed! However after lighting only a few candles it appeared to stop working. Charging again didn't help and I resigned myself to disappointment. Husband to the rescue. It appears that if you are lighting new candles or tea lights, the wax coating on the wick can come into contact with the end of the lighter and create a seal that effectively stops it from working. So if you're lighting lots of new tea lights you will find you have to clean the ends periodically (or else bring each candle to eye level to ensure the wick doesn't touch the ends). For me this loses the product one star, as I'm nearly always lighting lots of candles, not just one or two, and it makes for a bit of a laborious job.

Bought this after a near disaster trying to refill a gas candle lighter. The instructions on the back are so tiny I had to take a photo and then enlarge on my I pad. I almost sent it back as I couldn't figure out how to work it at first, but when I realised there is a little button under the slider it worked. It's great, charges quickly, lights candles, hobs etc. Clean and safe. Would have been 5 stars if instructions were clearer.

I was tempted to give this product a lesser rating as the first one that arrived lasted a day and then the arc that produces the spark to light the candle gave out and was only on one side of the head of the item - insufficient to light anything. However I simply used Amazon Returns and ordered another one which arrived the following day - all production lines can produce a few faulty items. The new unit has worked every day over Christmas so fingers crossed this product will now last the course. It is a great gadget for lighting candles and clearly other things like gas burners, etc. We bought one as a Xmas Present for a close family member and haven't heard anything negative. As long as there are not general reliability issues then this is a great product as it does not need fuel, it being charged with a micro-USB cable that comes with the unit.

I just got this to replace my ageing gas candle lighter. I light candles most nights so decided to spend a little more and try this. Wow its great! Simply push the button and hold the arc over the candle wick. It lights in a second! Seems to light better than the gas flame. It came ready charged and in a nice box. I decided to charge it up fully anyway. A little green light comes on when its charging. I would recommend this for anyone who regularly uses a gas lighter. Im not sure if it would be suitable for cigarettes but it should be fine on a gas stove. For lighting candles its perfect.Update - The lighter stopped working after a week or so, so I re-charged it and the same problem, no arc. If his happens to you just check that no melted wax has found its way onto the prongs. Once I had cleaned the wax off everything was fine.

It didn't work out of the box. The charge light would not come on using the supplied USB cable or another USB cable. I tried a couple of known good USB charges and it will not charge.When I took it out of the cllephone wrapper it was in I could see fingerprints on the case of the lighter, so it looks like it has been used before.So I'm returning it. Whats most annoying is that the only return options are +collect and Local which means I have to get in my car, drive for four miles, pay parking to drop it off, and all the while there is a Post Office two minutes walk from me in my village. Im not a happy.
