Possibly one of the best things I've ever bought. I was a little dubious at first, but given the amount I was spending on rice paper and ink, I thought it was worth a try.Basically, in use, it looks and feels the same as writing with ink on rice paper, there is plenty of space to practice... so not a lot of waiting for the mat to dry so you can re-use it...depending on how much water you have on your brush, the actual markings last anywhere from 5-10 minutes. The water turns the 'paper' a very dark, opaque black but vanishes completelyI've no idea how long it will last, but given the surface is roughly the same as 8 A4 sized sheets of rice paper, and practice quality paper costs about £10 for 60 sheets....even if it only worked for 7 uses (and the description promises thousands) it will have already paid for itself.My only minor complaint is the provided brush is pretty poor quality, which isn't helped as painting with water doesn't hold the brush bristles together like real ink... but zero mess, zero clean-up and Kanji practice only costs a small cup of water instead of a lot of ink and half a pack of paper.

The fabric was damaged with multiple scratches all over.But I really love how detailed the guide book was and the brush seems pretty good (yet to use it as the fabric was damaged).As I really love the idea of this product, I am requesting for a refund and will re-purchase it. Hopefully the second set will not have any issues.

Quality product. Gives fluid crisp strokes. A good way to practice all types of script/brushstrokes. Saves using loads of paper too!
