Excellent
From my husband: “I am reading a lot of reviews that complain of dead spots, like a tooth missing, etc. It may be because the tuners come with the button screw slightly loose. The tuner will slip until you snug up the tuner button screws. They work. No complaints from me for what they cost. I would not put them on an expensive banjo but, for my beater banjo they are a definite upgrade and work great, smooth, hold tune and make my husband’s banjo look and sound like a better class instrument.Yay!”Thank You.

Golden gate Tuner's
I had no issues with these tuner's. I used them to replace the factory tuners on a Mulucky banjo. Not because of functionality, but because I didn't like the look. I used a drill bit the same size as the insert and made sure I drilled straight. Then fill and sand the screw holes. The tuners work good and so far I have not had to make but minor adjustments.

Great tuners for a less expensive banjo
Smoothness of gears is somewhat inconsistent, but they work very well and look good for the price.

Easy to install, smooth tuning, and seem to stay in tune.

These work! Smooth!
The last four sets of this type tuners all had one or more tuners that broke or hung up with in the first week. I changed to this supplier at over double the cost, but these are worth it! They work perfectly!

new replacement tuning pegs
While traveling North of Boston on my birthday we encountered a Music store. I looked at the Banjos on display and decided on a Ibanez inexpensive 5 string. It had problems keeping in tune so I had a music repair guy change out the tuning pegs, which he did using tension pegs similar to the originals. Again the banjo did ok at 1st and then the same problem came up. The notes were sourer and would not stay in tune. Later I decided to replace the tuning pegs again. This time "No Friction Pegs". I was determined to use 4:1 ratio pegs. Golden Gate P-147 Deluxe, was my choice, and I changed the pegs myself. All went well, and it never sounded better. So far it sounds like an expensive banjo. I could not believe it. WoW! Awesome Golden Gate, and Ibanez !

Good for the price BUT!!!
Not the most precise tuners. Some high spot in the gearing causing a grinding effect.

Smooth and secure feeling
My Chinese beginner banjo wouldn't stay in tune. After a brief autopsy, the horrid tuners were discarded and some fret leveling and polish ensued as I awaited these butter-smooth planetaries. Of course my old fifth tuner was bad, so I shoulda ordered the five together. Very happy with these.
