The best heater ever!
Even though this heater has many negative reviews, I think this heater is the best heater ever. Not only do I get compliments from everyone that sees the heater in my living room, it really does its job in making the room warm. Only thing is, that it only warms up 1 room, but it does 1 heck of a job warming it up. I love this heater and I am thinking of purchasing another 1 for my bedroom. This heater also saved me a ton on my heating bill!! Great +++++. Happy shopping!

Pay Attention to The reviews... Negative outwieghs hands down
I have had this unit for 4 years, it worked a bit first winter for maybe 30 days. It never worked again and it was past any warranty. I just got a rebate certificate from this company offering me what I paid here if I upgrade to their new model which will cost me $270 after there rebate. So I thought hey maybe, then I read these reviews and when 99% are bad DON'T BUY IT. We have nothing to gain here, just warning people. Yes you may be the 1 in 100 that this actually works but we have owned 2 and neither of them did. If you buy I hope you are really good at tearing things apart, fixing them and love to do it all over again!!

Expensive Piece of Pretty Furniture
We have owned this for the last two years. It was purchased online for $400. This is an electric fireplace, made by a company called Heat Surge (not sure where they got the name). Supposedly, the cabinet (or mantle) is made by the Amish, who we all know are renowned for producing some of the best furniture you can buy.The "Roll n Glow" is an electric heater that mimics a real fireplace. It's made up of a sheet metal interior cabinet that houses the simulated fire box and electric heater. Inside, there are some plastic logs with backlighting and neat mechanical motion system in the back that makes it look like flames coming out of the burning wood. It looks pretty cool, but you can tell it's fake. There's a control panel under a grille that stretches across the top face of the cabinet with an on/off switch, controls for the "fire" brightness, and three settings for the electric heater system which on full blast will deliver 1500 watts for 5100 btu's. To access it, you flip down a section of the grille on the right hand side. It's held in place by a magnet, so there's no physical locking mechanism to keep kids from playing with the controls. The "roll" part of the Heat Surge comes from the four swivel casters on each corner that let you roll the fireplace from room to room pretty easily. Also, the electrical cord is pretty long at about 5 feet (for a heater), so you don't have to put it up against an outlet. The mantle part of the Roll n Glow is made of blonde-finished oak. From what I can tell it is made of solid oak, but there's no defined grain to the side panel like a solid piece if hardwood would have, which leads me to believe they are veneers over a substrate like fiber board or plywood. The backing is also man made. As far as being made by the Amish, there's a plaque on it that says this proudly, but there's rally no way to tell if it's being truthful. For all I know, the "Amish" could be someone in a factory in Indonesia or Bangledesh. I will say that it is pretty heavy. The first time I turned it on I was impressed because it looked pretty real! The logs and fire behaved sort of like a real wood fire, and the mechanism was pretty quiet. As far as the heater part of the fireplace, it's nothing to write home about. It works just like any other electric heater. The highest setting would heat our living room and kitchen area (about 400 sq. ft.) pretty good. It would take a half hour or so, but it worked good enough for us to be comfortable in short sleeves when it was 40 degrees out, so I could substantiate the 5100 btu claim. When we moved it into our bedroom, it would heat it in about 12 minutes and kept it warm. The lower settings are about useless though, and for any room bigger than 400 sq. ft., it will have a hard time keeping it warm on a cold day.The casters worked good even on carpet, but you still had to be careful. The short wheelbase and top-heaviness made it easy to tip over. Now, the main reason for 2 stars is that pretty much all this is good for is a pretty piece of furniture. If you want an electric heater, go buy one that costs $40. It will work A LOT better than this, and this costs 10 times as much. There are other electric fireplaces out there that work just as good or better for 1/2 the price. Also, the fake fire mechanism has started to make intermittent noises. Nothing too intrusive, but still noticable and a little unsettling considering this costs so much, which leads me to believe that the extra $250-300 is coming from the "Amish" craftsmanship. This would be best for a small bedroom, or anywhere you don't need a lot of heat. It will work for you, but as a heater it just doesn't perform as I expected.Pros:Fake fire looks pretty realPretty wood cabinetCasters at 4 cornersAdjustible brightnessAdjustible heat outputCons:ExpensiveSome man made materials in the mantleHeater doesn't work very goodNo lock on the controls to keep kids from messing with themOverall, this is a very nice-looking piece, but that's about it. It does heat small rooms, but if you want to do that, go get a dedicated electric heater.

Need Just a Little More Out of This Unit
I owned another system similar to this one that really warmed a pretty large area. I was expecting this unit to have the same type of output, but it comes a little short. With that said, the unit work well, the fault was mind for not clearly understanding the capacity of the unit.

Has worked for 5 years, until now....
Well, I love the look of my heat surge, we got the cherry mantle with the drawer, it looks much better then just having the heater sit on the floor, just my opinion. We got it about 5 years ago, we have a rec room, that used to be a 2 car garage and had just remodeled it, but it was still cold in there!!! Gets very cold, so we got the heat surge from Amish. It looks great, the flames look nice too, they are of course fake, but they don't look cheesy, they look nice to me. Well last week as my husband was in the ICU from phnemonia, I come home and turn on my heater and it's so loud!! It's like metal on metal hitting, I have unscrewed every screw in the back, I can't even get into the thing to figure out what is going on!!! I have emailed them where we got it, but have been reading about customer service is really bad!! I hope they get back to us soon!! Our rec room is our only room to sit, we had a flood about a year ago and our living room half of kitchen and a bedroom was ruined!! So we have nothing in those rooms, no carpet or furniture! I'm so glad we remodeled our garage or we would have no where to sit!!! So for now we are stuck in our bedroom, it's soooooooo cold in the rec room...... I have no complaints on this electric heater, until now... It heated our rec room good, it took a little bit to warm entire room, and on very cold days we had to have it on 24/7 to keep it warm, no sure about the electric bill, if it was sky high my husband would have brought that up, plus we have to run it 24/7 in the winter cause it gets cold in there and we can't let it get freezing in there due to we have a lot of electronic things, TV, stereo ect.... I'm hoping this is an easy fix. Oh and the light for the flames just burnt out, so running this thing every winter 24/7 for 5 years it just brunt out, and it's just needs a small light bulb one of those candle looking ones but a little bigger. If anyone knows how to get into the back of this thing, I would love to know, we unscrewed every screw in the back, it's like you have to take the entire heater out from the mantle but we tried that too!! Just can't get in it!Update 12/15/14 it was a very good easy fix, it needed a part, we run that heater a lot!! So after 5 yrs of running, it's going to need things, it was cheap to fix, the only other thing that had happened recently the bulb burnt out and that was a easy fix too!! I'm up grading this to a 4 star, if this breaks i will buy another Amish heater :) I thought I had put photos up of ours, but I don't see them, again it heats up our 2 car garage that we made into a rec room, if it's really cold in there it does take a little bit to get it warm, but once it's warm, it will stay warm until we turn it off or we turn in on a lower heating setting. But like I said we run it 24/7 our regular heat doesn't get into that room, I keep it running on a low setting 24/7 cause we have TV electrcal stuff and if we didn't have any heat turned on it can get 40 degrees in there!! If it's like 20 out side...
