Good information
This book has many basic things to think about before starting any kind of business, money management / cash flow; small business plan development (both in general and for bath and kitchen in particular), employee vs independents, etc. While it does have information specific to kitchen / bath remodeling business it also has some great information any small business (or future small business) owner will want to know. The information is good for those just starting and a great reminder to those that may be wanting to refocus / clean up their current business practices. The "weirdest" thing is on the page after the copyright page. It give thanks to it's "gold sponsor" the Delta Faucet Company. Now I did not notice any "product promotion" per say in this book. After reading the book I see this more as Delta working to help promote good business practices in the remodeling industry while having an opportunity to put their name out there.

Good Basic Instructions About Starting A Business
Although the title of this book is aimed at those interested starting a kitchen and bath business, much of it is broadly-based enough to be useful for anyone thinking to start their own business. I was surprised at how readable and commonsense it was, very useful for someone like me who really needs to analyze my strengths and weaknesses regarding my capability of operating a business. I expected this book to be boringly-designed and written in a style that would be over my head, since I've never run my own business, but it's not.The main chapters are: Getting Started, Planning Your Business, Business Start-Up Issues, Accounting and Record Keeping, Financial Controls, Protecting Your Business, Basic Tax Management, The Basics of Human Resource (People) Management, Human Resource Management - After the Decision Is Made, Marketing, Professional and Profitable Project Management, Responsibilities fot the Business Owner/Manager, Responsibilities of Designer of Record, Managing Client Expectations and The Job Site, Industry Standards for Molding Order Procedures and Cabinet Installation. As you can see from that, a lot of the information is broad-based and applicable to most business start-ups.The book is text-book sized and a hard-cover. The font size is comfortable. There are wide margins on one side of the page for note-jotting. The chapters are broken up into sub-chapters and include illustrations, graphs, worksheets, templates and highlighted information boxes, all which serve to maintain eye interest and also to give examples of exactly what is being discussed.I was surprised to find this book both useful and interesting. Although I'll probably never run a kitchen and bath business myself, I have a much greater understanding of how, exactly, a business should be operated. Knowledge is power.
