High quality set that saves you time!
My kids love a scavenger hunt, but the amount of time it took for me to set up clues was less than fun for me. Between drawing pictures for my 4 year old and coming up with riddles for my 8 year old I was spending way to much time prepping. I picked up the Gotrovo Treasure Hunt Game based on the fact that it had a variety of cards. Pictures with the words on the back, riddles without the answer on the back, and a set of fantasy cards with places like "Mermaid Cove". There are both indoor and outdoor locations that are color coded for the intended use, red: outdoor, blue: indoor, green: indoor or outdoor, gold: role-play and blank cards. This really speeds up setting up the clue trail. The card are water resistant, but not water proof. The game comes with a map that seems like it is made out of the same material that placemats for kids are made out from. I think it is almost indestructible and will last a long time. Then there are high quality Velcro dots that go on the map and the back of all the cards. With 100 cards, the prep work is a bit time consuming the first time. There are 10 gold coins that you can include with each clue card, and a small red bag to put them in. This is great for keeping one child in charge of the map and one child in charge of the coins, but not necessary for the game at all. Finally, there is a gold treasure box to hide the loot. This is a good size box (about 7x 3.75x 2.25 inches inside) that has magnetic closures for the lid. It only take a few minutes to hide the clues through the house, and depending on how well you hide them and how far you spread them out, you can keep kids entertained for a good chunk of time. Now, for the only problem I had with the set: The map is cool, but not very functional. It comes rolled up in a tight tube, so it wont straighten out. If your child was just supposed to just play pretend with it, it would be great. But it's two sided with Velcro dots that you are supposed to place the clue cards on as you find them. As it curls back up, it nocks the cards off and my kids were struggling with it the whole time. My 4 year old said "How about we just bring the cards to you each time we find one?" I decided to risk destroying the thing and used an iron at it's lowest setting to try and flatten it out. This would have worked better and quicker if I had done that before putting the Velcro dots on. But after heating it up and leaving it rolled up backwards for a few minutes, it's decently flat. I think that rolling it up backwards overnight may work or using a hair dryer, but not sure. Obviously, I'm not a very patient person.Looking at the whole set, you could create something like this for little to no money depending on what you have around the house. But, if you lack the time and/or patience to get that done, this is a great alternative. Is the set worth the cost? I think so. The supplies like the map, treasure box, and coins are not necessary for a scavenger hunt. But the kids love them and they are all a great quality. This would be so much fun for a birthday party or any gathering that kids are around! My kids love it and have asked to play it daily.

Better than I Thought
So this is one of the very few reviews on Amazon I have ever left. My daughter got this game for Christmas. I wasn't so sure about it based on the reviews and the description...thought it would be cheesy and no one would play it. That is not true. My daughter has played this game with three different groups of people since she got it. It is great for kids of all ages, and they play so well together when doing it. The age range so far has been 4-13. The 13 year old admittedly had more fun hiding and letting the others run to look for the clues...but she still willingly played. It is great because you really can play it indoors and out. You can hide the pieces easily or make it more challenging. Even the 6 year old was able to figure out how to hide the clues on her own. It might take a moment to get it set up but once they get it, they are off to the races. It keeps them moving and excited. In a way, it is like an Easter Egg Hunt, and we know how much the kids love those! It really does keep them busy for at least an hour to 2 hours at a time, depending on how many people there are. Yes, you could make something like this by yourself, but the gold coins and the box are super pretty and make it extra fun. The cards are great. The riddles are relatively easy to figure out though, but that doesn't deter them from getting excited when they figure it out.

Fun for all ages
This is a great game. It is a scavenger hunt type game, so I'm sure you could make your own, but this makes it soooo simple. I have a "just turned 7" and "about to turn 3" year old. There a picture clues and riddle type clues so that it is easy for the 3 year old, but also a little challenging for the 7 year old, but they can still play TOGETHER!!!! They had so much fun running around the house searching for the clues. There are a lot of picture cards, but only 30 of the written clues, so I wish there was so more of those, but it is still sooo much fun. The clues are things that you might only have one of, like a washing machine, or multiples, like window. This is great because even if you do multiple games in a row and use some of the same cards, you can just change which window you put it in. It's hard to play a game with both my boys at this age where they both have lots of fun. The almost 3 year old will lose interest, and move pieces, and knock things over, which frustrates 7. This game gave the opportunity to play together for a common goal of finding a treasure together. It was great for everyone!

Fun Treasure Hunt in the house
I got this for my niece (age 5) and she really like it! I liked that there was a variety of cards and that you could use them for different age groups (some just have pictures, some have a single word, others have riddles). There were also blank cards so you could make up your own riddles, pictures, etc - I didn't do that, but it was cool to have the option. It was also nice to be able to stay indoors, mix it up, or do everything completely outside. Makes it a good option for rainy days! I thought it was nice that the gold bar (the end treasure) opened so you could add more treasure. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because everything is so ambiguous. I ended up playing hot and cold with my niece because there were usually multiple locations in the house for any given card. Not the game's fault, I just always picture a treasure hunt as leading from one point to another with no other options. I also wasn't impressed with the coins and gold bar when I first received it, but my niece was super excited to be finding "gold doubloons" and as long as the she likes it, that's all that matters.
