Yes, they are completly different. Some art is the same from mission cards, but the options are completly new and were written by fans.

Does this expansion add anything/better for the automa version?

Just encounter cards. Like others encounter cards, you can used against the Automa. But the Automa doesn't use encounter cards itself.
