Absolutely useless
I bought this for use on both my MacBook Pro 15" Retina, and my Windows 7 Desktop. I previously purchased a universal drive just for the Dell Optiplex 760, but it was not compatible with the sff (small form factor) drive that is required by the dell system. I figured nothing could be easier than this drive since it was plug and play and use 3.0. I plugged it into the MacBook Pro first and watched. Absolutely NOTHING. I then tried it on the Dell desktop, same results, but it does say "our device is being installed. Click here for details" Went to computer icon to check under removable storage devices and nothing. Computer just keeps making the sound it makes when a device is connected or disconnected. The drive is pretty light so I'm not even sure that I could use it as a paperweight. It alo had damage to the box that the drive itself was in, not the Amazon box. I'm not sure how this product received so many high ratings. I'm an engineering major and I am pretty proficient at solving problems, but this is one that can't be solved. I am also very confused by the manufacturers use of the English language. There is not even a web address to contact the company for help, as a matter of fact there is not even a company name on the box or the device. Who makes this???? Why did Amazon allow this to be sold without the name of a company appearing anywhere on the product?

Great Inexpensive CD/DVD Drive
I have a home built PC with two optical disk drives that broke. Being old, I decided to just get a cheap external optical drive to prolong it's life. The Novapolt 3.0 USB is a well built, simple external CD/DVD player and burner that has USB 3.0 throughput. An SSD drive and USB 3.0 really makes the advantages of USB 3.0 throughput apparent.Unlike other customers, I plugged it in to my Windows 7 Professional box and it worked immediately. It was recognized, installed and showed up in windows explorer. I used no special software.I then used it to install some software.PROS:InexpensiveSimple with manual tray release which is good. Automatics tend to stop working over time when the rubber belt breaks (seen it 10 times).Pretty ThinAttractive Metal CaseCONS:The black, brushed metal case attracts fingerprints. I think that's kind of an issue as it constantly detracts from is relatively handsome look.

Do Not Be Fooled! This item is junk!
As another purchaser said, this item is junk. The old adage applies: If it's too good to be true, it probably isn't true. The item is described as "plug and play." More accurately, it should say "plug and LAY." That's what it did. No icons popping up on my desktop. No activity at all when I inserted a disc, either a blank CD-R or a commercial CD. The description says it's 6.6" x 6.6" x 1.0". That's not true. It's about 5.75" x 5.75" x .75". The instructions, if can call them that, are written in English, but obviously by someone with no command or understanding of the language. "Product is tray loading external portable ODD caddy which i suitable to USB 2.0/3.0 connector desktop or laptop Via the USB interface, external drives and computers are successfully read information function." Or this one: "Click on the desktop, open the "my computer," in the mobile storage devise should display the drive icon." You get the idea. The 5 star reviews are BS so do yourself a favor and skip this one altogether. Shame on Amazon for being an intermediary for the sale of unquestionable junk! One additional note: The "brand name" shown in the photos on Amazon is nowhere to be found on the item itself or its packaging! Further evidence that this is junk!

Good portable DVD/CD drive, Mac compatible
Needed an external DVD/CD read/write Drive for my MacBook, with tray and spindle for odd shaped and small disks. This one works, it has a generic case model ECD829-SU3.Internally Sierra recognized it as a MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ880AS (MatShita is Panasonic, BTW), and indicates it as supporting the following formats: CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-RAM, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL

USB cable too short!!
OK, Its a DVD like any other. Maybe better, maybe not so good. Time will tell. The only negative to this point, (five minutes after I install it), is the USB cable is ridiculously short, about 8 inches. If you need a longer attachment to reach a USB connection, think an extension cable.

Works ok on laptops, but keeps losing the connection on Surface Pro 3 Tablets.
This product works ok on our Dell laptops, however, it continually drops it's connection when trying to use it on our Surface Pro 3 tablets. The Customer Service reps say it works fine on the Pro tablets, but we are finding that is not the case.

Sturdy Efficient Product
I had Just bought a new computer and it did not come with a CD Player on it so I bought this External CD Drive just in case I needed it to download anything, Which it turns out I did. I downloaded Light room 6 and Star Craft from it and was pleasantly surprised. It does the trick perfectly. This is a no hassle product. Cord plugs in and is amply powered, Design and build is sturdy yet sleek and it runs quietly and efficiently. It does what you need it to and is easy stored and tucked away until you need it again.

Review of Novapolt USB 3.0 External CD Rom Drive
It works well to burn CD's and DVD's. It is a good value for the price. The only draw back I have found is a very short USB cord. It is hard to plug in to my PC. I remedied it by ordering and extension, again from Amazon. With the longer cord, it works pretty well!!
