The Eldritch Horror Cities in Ruin Expansion invites players aged 14 and up to immerse themselves in a cooperative board game experience for 1-8 players. With an average playtime of 3 hours, this expansion introduces new investigators, deadly disasters, and a host of new monsters, enhancing the already thrilling Eldritch Horror universe.

Excellent expansion!
I really like the new mechanics introduced in this expansion. The heroes are solid and the additional cards to existing decks are a plus!

A great small-box expansion
This was the second expansion that I bought for Eldritch Horror after Forsaken Lore, so I definitely skipped a few expansions along the way. I really liked the idea of an expansion that added the destruction of cities to the game board. In addition to 4 new investigators and 1 new ancient one, this expansion adds a handful of cards to each of the base game's decks, and introduces two new decks in the form of destruction cards and destroyed city encounter cards.Despite being the seventh expansion for Eldritch Horror, I'm happy to say that this expansion works very well on its own without needing the content from other expansions. If you just own the base game and want to skip right to this expansion, I don't think you'd have any problem at all doing so.In order to fully take advantage of this expansion, you'll need to either play using the new ancient one or use a certain prelude card. These ensure that you'll periodically draw and resolve destruction cards as the game progresses. Most of these cards simply instruct you to destroy a certain major city, placing a destruction token on that space. From then, this space is no longer treated as a city space and instead investigators will have special destroyed city encounters on that space. These encounters range from enormously beneficial to extremely dangerous, and I appreciate the addition of a new encounter deck with so much variety. If you don't play with the new ancient one or prelude card, these destruction cards will only show up occasionally. However, because there is always a chance of them appearing, you'll always need to break out the new decks of cards and tokens when you play Eldritch Horror from now on. This is a bit of a pain since Eldritch Horror already has a ton of cards and components. These destruction cards appear very rarely in normal games of EH; I've played three games without the new ancient one and have only had to draw one destruction card. You could argue that this is a good thing since it prevents the destruction from getting too routine but it would be nice if they showed up just a bit more often without having to use the new ancient one or prelude card.Still, the new components in this set are pretty great. I really like all four of the new investigators and I'll never forget using the new gattling gun to mow down a horde of zombies in Australia. If you're looking to pick up an expansion for Eldritch Horror, this is one of the first I'd recommend after Forsaken Lore.

Any Expansion for EH is a good one IMO
I love Eldritch horror SO MUCH and this expansion is another fun one to add to our collection. This is a small one but has a big impact on the game play itself. I cant believe how many expansions there are now for EH but I keep buying and enjoying them so I hope they keep making them!

More of the same and at the same time completely different. An Excellent addition to your Eldritch experience
Does any game need 7 expansions? No. But if you do make a seventh expansion, it better change the base game enough to warrant a purchase. The apocalyptic impact of Cities in Ruin on the board adds a distinct flavor and enough game play changes to make this a worthwhile addition. I own all the expansions, and while I enjoy the variety of new boards, I am tired of the logistical annoyance they bring. This expansion adds variety by modifying how the main board plays, an excellent design decision. Yes, the effects are random and can be catastrophic, but if you do not have a tolerance for randomness, you would not be playing this game. The added character are ... ok. Old abilities have been tweaked a bit, nothing new here. The new spells and items, I don't remember a thing about them, and they just are added to the ever growing decks. This expansion is all about the antagonist and how the board changes. Get this even if you have the other expansions, and definitely get this if you do not.

Another great expansion to the already fantastic Eldritch Horror game
Another great expansion to the already fantastic Eldritch Horror game, adding a whole new mechanic to potentially destroy entire cities in your quest to stop the Old One from awakening. Adds more tension and some good flavor to the game.
