Is this suitable for a one year old?

Yes, no loose parts that are easy to swallow. Lovely for scooping water and whisking frothy bubbles ...especially if unsure of using sand at such an early age.

Would this work with kinetic sand?

Yes I bought these for my Granddaughter and she uses them with kinetic sand

Is wooden box included, I'm asking because it's on every picture?

Ours didn't come with the box as far as I remember. It's got a mesh bag which is great for the sand falling out of!
