So far the modules work as expected. Easy to use for simpler functions.

I have all 5 lined up, I've tried multiple 32GB SDcards and a few 8GB SDcards, all with mp3 files but no success, no lights, nothing. Used a Multimeter and 1 out of 5 has a short circuit between speakers and gnd (soldered poorly). The 4 others without soldering issue don't work. They get voltage in all the right areas, button input is registered, device doesn't work standalone. Will be returning.Going to keep trying to make at least 1 work, I'll update if it's a me error but all my testing comes back device's suck

Took a while to learn how to use them but they work great.

UPDATE from original review. After several hours of tinkering and scouring the internet for additional resources, I discovered in a similar chip that you need a 1k resistor on the RX pin. Additionally, my board only worked when the GND from the Arduino was hooked to the right, lower GND pin on the DFPlayer Mini. It would not initialize on the left, lower GND pin. Once I changed around the pin locations and added a resistor I was finally able to initialize the board. I hope this helps.Ordered these a few weeks ago. I have been trying to get any of the 5 to work but they do not seem to even power on. I've tried powering directly from the Arduino Mega and by secondary power supply. No matter how many times I go through the wiring schematics, checking and rechecking, none of the 5 power up nor can they be initialized or seen in any way from the serial monitor. Will be ordering a different board to try again....

The media could not be loaded. Very experienced user of DFPlayer minis. 5 out of 5 of these did not work and 2 smoked when powered. No, they were not overloaded. Multimeter tested. Avoid these. They are cheap for a reason.

These were for a project to turn an old landline phone into a great learning toy for the grandkids. Perfect!

From experience, these boards come in two flavors. It's impossible to tell which is which before buying. The only way I can distinguish them is the color of their led.When their LED is red, they have some kind of serial issue requiring lots of pauses and retries along with the occasional delay when playing.When their LED is blue, they function perfectly. Quick to play.These happen to be red ones with serial issues. If your code can accommodate occasional serial failure and you don't care about a play delay, they will work in a pinch.My code doesn't use the RX from the chip to get data back which saves a pin on my Arduino so retries don't work for my case, and the play delay is too much for my projects.
