Q: Why is it difficult to suck water through while using the hydration belt?

I would hydration bag position. I have to be careful my bag does get too low in my backpack. That causes a kink in the bottom of the bag and I get no flow through the tube.

Q: how stiff is the tube? I want to wear under a beekeeping suit, so I need the tube to stick up from collar or lower rim of beekeeping veil.

It is not stiff at all. Very floppy. But you could tape some wire, pipe cleaner, or anything else to it that allows you to adjust it and hold it in position. I use it with a motorcycle helmet so I would think you will have to be creative with mounting as well. But once you get it in place, it works very well. I love it.
