Incredibly smooth Whiskey, rich flavour.
Incredibly smooth Whiskey.Drank it easily drink with a few ice cubes, no burn, just a rich, full flavour.Personally I'm not a peaty flavour person so this hit the spot just right.If you are a fan of the Japanese Yamazaki brand then good chance, you will love this one right here.

Lovely Irish malt whiskey. In recent years this is the Irish whiskey I drink the most. It combines a nice complex flavour with an affordable price tag, so a rare treat.

The best!
This was bought as a gift. People who like and understand whiskey [I don't] have assured me that Irish Whiskey is the best and that Tyrconnell is the best of the best.

Inferior to the 10 year Madeira Cask, which Amazon sells for the same price.
I actually bought this by mistake, thinking I was pushing the "buy it again" button on the Tyrconnell 10 Year Old Madeira Cask Tyrconnell Madeira Cask Single Malt Irish Whiskey 70 cl, which I had bought once before. Actually, what I was clicking on was a purchase recommendation window Amazon generated, which looked a lot like it was just recommending I buy again something I'd bought before. Very sneaky, Amazon. It wasn't until I had opened the bottle and tried a dram that I noticed that what I got was not what I thought I was ordering, and by that time I figured it was too late to do a return -- and anyway, this whiskey is not so inferior as to be worth making a fuss over. More interesting than the basic low-end Jameson's, and only a bit more expensive.HOWEVER, Amazon sells the 10 Year Old Madeira Cask at the same price as this no-age-statement whiskey (which is a strangely low price for the Madeira Cask, but enjoy it while it lasts). An age statement doesn't confer magical properties on what's behind the label, but in this case, the Original Tyrconnell is a very inferior whiskey to the Madeira Cask. The nose is good, and the palate, while a bit unbalanced towards sweetness, is pleasant. However, this batch of the Original has an unpleasant, bitter burned-plastic aftertaste. The aftertaste (I won't distinguish it with the term "finish") is somewhat akin to the phenols that one gets from a good peated whiskey, but instead of coming off as peaty it comes off as just plain chemical -- you'll know what I mean if you ever burned a phenolic circuit board while soldering something on to it. My guess is that this off flavor comes from whatever they used to dry out the malt and halt the malting process, but who knows. The Madeira Cask has none of that flaw, and the Madeira overtones curiously help balance out the overly simplistic sweet mouth of the Original, by adding a bit of caramel. So, I'd say avoid this one and pick up the Madeira Cask, at least as long as Amazon is selling it for the same price.
