Great Chinese / Vietnamese hat!
The hat is made of high-quality bamboo and is incredibly durable. It's also lightweight and comfortable to wear, making it perfect for a day at the beach or a stroll around town. The design of the hat is also very unique and eye-catching, making my wife stand out from the crowd in the best possible way.I would highly recommend the Chinese Bamboo Coolie Hat to anyone looking for a stylish and effective way to block out the sun. It's not only functional, but it's also a fashion statement that is sure to turn heads. If you're looking for a way to keep cool and look cool at the same time, this is definitely the hat for you

Amazing. Very solid hat.
It was much higher quality than I thought it would have been. My kid loved it for his costume.

Great sun hat for hiking in dog days
I have been looking for a big rimed sun hat for hiking for a long time. I bought many of them, some are quite expensive, and none are perfect. This is so far my favorite hat to wear when hiking during dog days. There's no hat that offers better ventilation while still provide great protection for my full head and neck.Pro:- super breezy! You will feel every gentlest breeze on your head;- material keep the sun's heat away from your head better than any fabric hat, and its shape won't trap heat.- light weight.- largest "rim" for broad coverage. My face, neck and even parts of my shoulders are well shielded.- no floppy rims; steady in light wind.- good visibility.- like a hard hat can protect your head against fallen twigs or tree nuts.- no sweat band to trap heat (f you prefer hat with a sweatband, simply wear your favorite headband and wear the hat on top of that);- double as rain hat in light rain; great for use in summer when you may encounter a quick thunder shower on an otherwise very sunny day.- when you are stopping in the shade you can take it off and use it as a manual fan to keep yourself cool.- good quality workmanship;- can be used as Halloween costume or hang on the cool for Asian-style decor.- good for other outdoor activities such as gardening or walking your dog.- looks good on me (I happen to be Asian so this may not be a pro for other people).Cons:- if your backpack is very tall you may have trouble lifting your head up when wearing this hat, because the large rim on the backside may hit your backpack.- canopy is made of weaved bamboo strips so there are tiny holes that let in small dots of light. This doesn't bother me but if you need complete protection (lupus, skin cancer etc.) look elsewhere.- not portable. You can't stuff it in a pocket or a purse. It's not foldable or packable in any way. On a hike I either wear it on my head or fasten it to the front of my backpack, but I won't take it on a plane or a train.- the basket that sits on your head won't keep the hat on in moderate winds. It sits on the top of your head like a yarmulke. This minimal coverage keeps your head cool in heat, but won't stabilize the hat on your head much. It needs to be a lot deeper to grab your head, but that will lead to the problem of fitting different sized heads and will need to be adjustable. This is why I only give 4 stars to this hat.- long term durability in question. While I have no problem with this hat so far used in hiking trips it is made of bamboo strips and like a natural bamboo basket it will not last forever, especially if you like to throw things around or be rough with it.- not a fashion statement - it's a peasant hat! and you will stand out in the public so don't bother wearing if you like to "blend in". I probably won't wear it on NYC streets either.- expensive for a peasant hat.Other things to note:- The edge of the hat is coral pink and the string is also pink. On the website it looks orange. The inner plastic basket is yellow. The bamboo material has a bit greenish tint naturally.- The string is like shoe string but you can easily replace it with better strings from other hats you have, or make your own.- The hat sits better if you route the string behind your ears.- The basket is attached to the hat via 3 plastic cable ties. The hat has no front and back so if you can feel the cable ties on your head re-orient the hat in various directions until you won't feel the cable ties anymore. String can be untied and retied if necessary once you re-orient the hat. You can also tape the cable ties with bandaids for a bit cushioning. I used skin colored bandaids and you can hardly notice them.

Horrible Packaging.
As far as a rice hat goes it is fairly nice, except that it shipped in a plastic bag and as you can imagine was crushed and destroyed.

Provides shade round about.
I like that when you wear this Chinese Coolie Hat, that flies do not like coming under it and are for the most part kept away from my ears and face. They see the hat all the way around and hence stay away from it most always. I wish the hat had a more adjustable headband that could be made a bit larger in my case, hence make it a more comfortable fit. One size does not always fit everyone. I like that you can use the provided string strap to anchor the hat on your head in windy conditions but beware if the wind catches it just right as with any hat it can be blown off your head and with the strap not far. The hats wide brim is easy to forget about when reaching your hand toward your face so that you can inadvertantly hit the hat accidentally. But in time you learn to be more aware and more careful. I really like the hat and appreciate how it is designed. It keeps the sun out of your eyes and provides a cooler environment about your head and shoulders and when there is a cool breeze it encapsulates it in the summertime. The hat was not designed this way without purpose nor reason...
