Yes, the applicator pads can be used to apply poly coatings. Please note that you should not use the pads for anything else after applying poly.

Does this cloth pad need to washed after every use?

I have these and have been using them for several years to polish & wax car. I always wash after use. I never store unwashed - even if it's paired and keep one for each of the "car care products." This risks contamination with dust or other debris while the pad is stored, possibly causing swirls and scratches in car's paint. Moreover, the products will likely dry out on the pad to some extent, which pretty much renders the pad unusable. You don't want to be rubbing dried wax or polish onto car's surface. I typically use dish detergent - Yes I know, never use dish detergent to wash a car, it strips the wax. But you DO want to remove wax, or whatever, from the pad. I usually use lukewarm water, it will not shrink the pad or covering - microfiber is synthetic and does not shrink. Make certain to completely rinse pad after washing.

For those that apply compound by hand, is a microfiber pad like this the best option?

You can but if you have black car I suggest a softer foam pad. I used ultimate compound on very clean black car and created swirls. Removed with orbital buffer and foam pad. If your car is light and you are careful you probably won't Marr finish

Can I apply polyurethane to a table top with this product?

Yes it can be used for this purpose, but please note that it will not be reusable; it will need to be trashed afterwards.
