This is an easy-to-use leak detector from a manufacturer of excellent quality electrical and HVAC testing tools. I have a few other Elitech tools, and I found the design and build quality of this particular tool to be excellent too. I could find no obvious issues or areas of concern with it.I ordered this leak detector to check all of my air conditioners. It’s a good idea to check your air conditioners for leaks every once in a while. I plan to check all of my air conditioners once or twice a year, which should inform me of any minor/developing leaks.I have two central air conditioners, and a mini split air conditioner, and to be honest, I didn’t really expect to find any leaks. However, I moved the leak detector around all of the many line connections and caps, and to my surprise, I found a leak on one of my mini split’s line connections. So, I simply tightened the connection down with an adjustable wrench, and, no more leaking.I am tempted to call out a repairman to check the unit’s refrigerant charge, but the unit blows out air that’s 16 degrees colder than the air going in, so, until that changes, I’m going to call finding the leak and simply tightening a fitting a win.If you have any questions about this Elitech leak detector, please feel free to ask, and I'll try my best to answer. This is an infrared tester for R744 CO2 leaks. The device measures approximately 8”x2.75”x1.5”. It is powered by two 18650 rechargeable batteries (included); the batteries can be charged in the device using the included USB A to USB C charging cable. Control buttons and a buzzer are on the front; you can also plug headphones (non included) into the 3.5 mm port on the side when working in noisy environments. The device has a large color-coded LCD screen on the front. The probe is on a thick yet flexible shield rod that measures approximately 10” long. The device comes in a sturdy hardshell hinged storage case. The sensor is rated for 10 years. Five filters are included in the box.I found this device quite easy to get up and running. I use a variety of other Elitech devices like temperature loggers, and all have worked flawlessly. I like the display on this tester, which is quite easy to read. The flexible sensor rod feels very rugged. It is able to reach in where you need it. The sensor is quite sensitive, which can take a little getting used to if you haven’t used a professional tester like this one before. I really like that the batteries are rechargeable. Overall, this is a great choice for an R744 leak tester.

This Elitech Inframate C Infrared R-744 Refrigerant Leak Detector Carbon Dioxide CO2 Leakage Tester is built very well and quite durable. It is a bit on the expensive price based on the quality and overall functionality I actually think it's an excellent price point. It is also extremely compact and fits in a jacket pocket easily. This is nice as it makes it extremely portable and easily accessible for quick inspections.I also like the flexibility of the probe as it is easy to get into small spaces especially around AC units which have a lot of caps and fittings in the back with limited access. We tested ours looking for a very hard to find R744 leak and was quickly able to locate do the needed repair in a matter of seconds.Great feature is the nice hinged case that it comes with as it helps keep it protected while not in use. Another bonus are the rechargeable batteries that it comes with as it makes it pretty much plug and play.A great lead detector that I trust completely. I highly recommend it.

I tested this at first against a block of dry ice and it successfully detected a concentrated CO2 source sublimating nearby. It indicated different levels of CO2 when moving the sensor in the vicinity. It could detect the presence of the dry ice block out to about 6 ft in a still room with readings near the floor measuring higher.The detector is overall built well and comes with a nice case. The display is large and easy to read with clear measurements. I have used other HVAC equipment from Elitech and found the quality to be superb.

Elitech delivered industrial quality at the palm of your hand and at a cost that is a fraction of what you'll make as an HVAC tech in a day.The 18650 battery will give you longer operation times and also gives you the peace of mind that when the time comes, you can replace it for less than $10 and still have an awesome tool for the years to come.It also detects CO2 which is an useful feature, the carrying hard case feels very sturdy and with just a little care, would last you many years.Elitech has been delivering premium instruments at a fraction of the competition, with leading features and quality, i would definitely recommend this tool.
