Is this item easy to use?

Sort of. It did fall apart pretty easily, so it is great for display, but not as great for play. Depends on the age of the person playing with it though. I would not recommend for those under 12.

Is it cooler than it sounds

It is a great Lego set and the details on the small figures that are included are very well done.
