DRAGONtail Hydra zx390 Tenkara Fly Fishing Rod

The Dragontail Tenkara rod is excellent quality, the price from Amazon warehouse as a used item was reasonable. The only thing lacking was that some Tenkara flies were supposed to be included and they were not in the package. The flies are easily obtained so it was no big deal breaker. Quality, price and delivery were a five star rating.

Love the rod handled the slab bluegills nicely. ( note to self...if you drop rod while attaching line to Lillian let everything fall . Holding line results in broken tip) Ordered new tip section should be here soon.

I added Tenkara to my fly fishing days this year and with this rod it’s quickly become my preferred way to fish. This rod is a massive step up from my first Max Catch rod. Much more sensitive, way better flex and just a joy to cast. It’s caught 3” rainbows and it’s caught 15” cut throat. So much range, and just a blast regardless.I never really use the shorter length, but it’s their if I need it.Also, nothing against Max Catch products, I have a 3 weight fly rod by them and it’s absolutely flawless in my opinion. I consider it my long-distance-Tenkara rod :-)

Love this pole. Light weight easy to carry and use. Caught nice fish. Unfortunately slipped and fell breaking one section. Here's hoping I can find a replacement piece.

I prefer not to fish with really expensive equipment. I have had this rod out six or eight times. It is my fourth tenkara rod. I mostly fish still water, so I like the extra reach. I also like how light the rod is. I primarily catch trout up to 16” or so. I limit this rod to 5x tippet. I normally fish #14 or smaller nymphs or dries. On the rare occasion that I fish a stream, it’s nice to collapse the rod to a little shorter length, so that can be handy, but I would rather take a shorter tenkara rod for stream work. If you will own only one tenkara rod, the zoom feature is nice. I think it’s a great rod for the price. It handled well for both still water and streams.

I bought this rod to replace the previous DRAGONtail rod which for whatever reason snapped as I had a perch on it and the section next to top broke in half . I couldn’t find a way to replace that section so I took the dive and invested in another rod ... this morning as I was un tie ing my line from the rod’s tip .. the tip broke off in my hand .. a little shocking ... so now I have two unusable rods.. i appreciate the handling thats required when using this type of equipment but these events make me think i should look at another brand ... or maybe theres replacement parts

I slipped on a semi-frozen moss covered rock and busted my butt + rod.I was expecting to pay a small fortune to get it fixed but I was able to order the exact section from the Dragontail site for just a few dollars. It was a 5 minute fix to replace it.Really happy with this purchase.

Very happy with my purchase. Fantastic quality in all aspects. I was very impressed the moment I hooked the first fish on it. Love the telescopic feature. Didn't think I'd use it but I've found it to be quite helpful. I added an o-ring line winder on it and have been putting it to work.
