Keeps the drive cool enough to handle the case even under heavy write/read load. Paired this with a TB4 cable and Samsung evo 2TB drive and the transfer rate is absolutely amazing. Data copies very fast as long as you have the hardware usb-c to support the TB4 standard. Would recommend and buy again.

So far, so good after a few weeks of usage. I stalled a fast quality ssd inside and moved the home coder of Mac OS to expand the storage to 4 Terabytes. Works great with no issues.

Runs great with 4TB WD Black SN7100 ( >3400MB/S ).Fancy looking unit, bigger than I expected. Attached to my Mac Studio M4 Max.Temperature around 37C at idle, which is hotter than I am used to.Just purchase it, so time will tell on longevity of unit and drive.

Over all very substantial construction. Looks far better than most enclosures. A few things got to me and prevented me leaving a 5 star. First, not that we should really need them, but the installation guild has ridiculously small print with much wasted space between lines. Secondly are the screws. The screws on the housing should be set screws, there is nothing holding them in and once they fall out they are hard to seat back in between the heat sink fins. Thankfully an extra case screw is included, unfortunately said screw is just thrown in the box and is lost upon opening. The screw holding down the SSD might work on shorter SSDs, however with a 2280 I could not get the screw to sit correctly. Ended up using one that came with the SSD with no issue. Once installation is done, super easy set up. truly plug and play. The included USB cable is very short, but the drive sits right beside the computer, so no issue and no cable mess. I have not run any large file or speed tests, but idle temp is well within acceptable limits and I don't see heat issues to be too much of a problem if at all. Al together very satisfied, will likely consider again when more storage needs arise. I'll just make sure to have spare hardware around.

Bought this external SSD enclosure as I had an older Samsung 960 Pro 2TB SSD that I didn't want to go to waste. Installation was pretty easy, comes with all the tools needed as well as a USB C to USB C cable. Took about 5 mins max. Plug and play with my Macbook Pro M3 Max. Able to achieve decent read/write performance considering that it's an older drive. The enclosure does get hot, but I haven't noticed any performance issues due to the heat. I load all my Final Cut Pro libraries on this and it runs fine. Will likely get another one of these along with an SSD over an external SSD when I need more storage in the future. Only issue with this order was with Amazon. They initially shipped me an empty padded envelope with a packing slip and nothing else. Was freaking out a bit as not sure if Amazon would believe my story, but customer service took care of it. Reordered and got this a day later. All is well. Thanks Amazon. Highly recommend this!

I have to say that this is really excellent for the price. Well built and totally silent. I've ordered and returned several Thunderbolt enclosures that did not live up to my speed expectations, and had fans that were annoying. This one has no fan, and it is triple the speed of my simple $10 Orico enclosure using the Samsung Evo 4GB SSD I own. It's as fast as the 2TB internal SSD in my Mac Mini M4, and actually even a little faster.I like the little rubber feet on the side, and it's a little darker than my Mac Mini, but the LED on it is not overly bright and distracting as many are. Good build quality. Very happy with the purchase. Some have mentioned that the screws are easy to lose, but there were extras provided, one for the body and another for the internal SSD, plus a screwdriver.I guess if I had any complaint it would be for the size and weight, compared to what I was using. The more than triple speed certainly makes up for that. It's a little darker silver than the Mac Mini next to it.

I have only had this for one day but I am getting 3100MB/s read/write on my M4 Macbook pro which is approximately equal to the speed of the internal SSD (using 1TB Samsung 990 EVO Plus). Easy install and no necessary software just recognized by the Mac immediately. For someone looking to supplement the limited internal storage and avoid the "Apple Tax" this is an ideal solution. I know there are many factors that limit SSD speeds but I am more than happy with this result. Highly recommend.

I tried this with a Crucial P3 Plus on an M4 Pro laptop and an M2 Mac mini. On both the drive would constantly disconnect when in use. I even tried connecting it to a powered Caldigit Element 4 hub and still the problem occurs. Returned. I am leaning towards a San Disk G40 or Oyen Digital U34 instead of DIY. Finding the right combo of NVME and compatible enclosure is just too costly for trial and error.
