Is the back of the housing flat or does it have something sticking out that requires a hole in the surface of the tailgate?

I believe it does actually 3 holes two for the screws and one for the camera wires. YouTube videos can show you for sure.

What kind of modifications if any have tried will it take to get this on an 08?
