Granger's Clothing Repel/Wash-in Waterproofer for Outerwear / 10oz

I've put this review under both the Grangers Performance Wash and Repel products as they must be used together.Just treated my LL Bean Gore Tex rain jacket. Jacket had totally lost its capability to repel water, water did not bead up at all. Per online Googling, I shouldn't have been using regular laundry soap to wash the jacket. I used the Grangers Performance Wash, sent the jacket thru on medium water temp, max soil and extra rinse. Then immediately sent the jacket thru the wash again with the Grangers Repel (medium water temp and max soil, no extra rinse). Water did bead up on the jacket after drying (in dryer), which was an improvement. But I sent it thru the wash a second time with the Grangers Repel (same settings) then tossed in the dryer on medium heat and one setting above normal dry temp. The jacket felt a bit stiffer (more coated) than after the first Repel treatment. Water beaded up again, but I believe the second treatment added more water repelling capability. Looking forward to trying it in the rain.

Works as it says. Never washed an article of clothing that requires the waterproof requirements. Worked great. I washed my jacket in a commercial washer at the laundromat. My jacket was the only thing in the machine and ended up being compromised in the spin cycle and caused machine o be unbalanced and so it was still heavily soaked and it’s just a light jacket. Thought there was a problem with the machine so washed it a second time in another machine and same result. Not a big problem but had to manually ring the jacket out before putting it in the dryer. Wasn’t a problem with the product but the machine or jacket or both. Otherwise it did the job.

Product performs its advertised function but to a lesser degree than I hoped. It restored the waterproof finish to my Patagonia rain jacket but it fails to be of the same quality as when I initially bought the jacket. The application is easy and pain-free, simply use as you would a laundry detergent. At max it can treat up to five garments. Overall, it works.

It's a rare treat to be the first to review something on Amazon! Fear not: Granger's "Clothing Repel" won't leave you hopelessly nude. Instead, if properly used, it will restore the water repellant finish on jackets and other outdoor gear. It's easy to apply with a wash and a dry and it washes away without any residue. After drying your items (ideally with a longish tumble in the dryer), water will once again roll off the surface of the fabric like magic.I had tried an older version of this product on the same jacket with underwhelming results. Fortunately, the product seems to have improved with the packaging, and that's cause for celebration in the nonsense-rich world of consumer marketing. This time, it restored the ailing hydrophobic finish on the jacket to like-new performance (as measured with my unscientific Tap Splash Test).If you've made the mistake of washing waterproof clothing with conventional (i.e. sudsing) detergent, I recommend either running it through a wash cycle without any detergent or using something like SPORT WASH LAUNDRY DETERGENT 64 fl oz to remove the detergent residue. The cleaning power of laundry soap destroys waterproof finishes, and if you don't remove whatever residue is present, it will seriously impair or even nullify any wash-in water repellant, regardless of brand. If you've washed a piece with normal detergent more than once, Granger's may not work at all. Given how expensive this stuff is per oz, do yourself a favor and make sure all the residue is rinsed out before you try to refinish anything.One final thing bears mentioning about wash-in water repellants: they're never going to be as good as the DWR (durable water repellant) applied at the factory. Even if you do everything exactly right (including at least 45 minutes in the dryer to "activate" the compound), you're going to have a not-so-durable layer of water protection that will, in my experience, quickly rub off in daily life. This means that until Gore-Tex's new "permanent beading surface" technology becomes widely available, you're going to have to refinish waterproof garments at least once or twice a year (and more if you live somewhere with a lot of rain).I hope that helps!P.S. If you have down gear to clean, I also highly recommend Granger's Down Wash Cleaner—it rescued a down jacket nearly ruined by a dry cleaner's chemicals.

This worked great for my gore-Tex rain pants. Washed on warm and dried on medium (per pants label) with Granger’s Tech wash. A week later washed pants in this product in warm water. Did NOT spin, didn’t want to spin out what I just washed in, let pants sit in washer 5 min and the hang dried to let product soak/dry in. Once completely dry, put in dryer on medium heat for 20 min to activate DWR. Once out of dryer, put under laundry room faucet and water was running off the pants, none soaking in. Will see how well it works outside and how long it lasts, but so far so good!

Do not have a feeling this works very well.Also when treating synthetic materials, you cant follow the instruction to tumble dry.Dont know if that really would make a difference.

I carefully followed the directions on the bottle, including prewashing with Grangers Performance Wash and doubling the amount of Grangers Repel for a top loading washer. My llbean raincoat came out covered in what looked like white powder, which was strange, since the contents of the bottle were liquid. I put it back through the washer on another cycle with just plain water, and selected the second rinse option, but it still had a powdery white residue on it. I could have lived with that, but once it was dry and I sprayed it with water, it has NO WATER REPELLENCY.

Water repell well but can't use for Arcteryx jacket. Arcteryx jacket uses special glue for finishing edge where hems are holding back instead of sewing down. After I applied Granger to my Beta jacket, all hems became undo. I ruined my jacket. I can't wear any more.
