So quiet!!!
As the title says, this machine whispers. I had another brand before that was much louder and quit working after two months. This unit works better from the get-go. Another feature I love is the design of the basket. It separates from the unit, and the base is smooth so it won’t scratch the counters. It also comes with a carbon filter lid to trap odors of food placed in it awaiting processing. Be careful when cleaning; the blades are like razors! I recommend a long, bristle brush to clean toward the bottom. I would give this unit 10 stars if I could. It’s worth every penny.

Exciting!
A pot full of veg and fruit trimmings, tea bags, coffee grounds, shrimp shells, popcorn hulls, etc., turned into this fine grained compost in a few hours. Just set the basket full of food scraps in the housing, turn it on and it takes care of itself. Quiet and unobtrusive while processing. The container has a filter in the lid that completely prevents odors as it sits on the kitchen counter collecting material to be processed. This is a simple overnight sensation. It reduces the bulk of food processed by about 90%. The resulting compost is dry and fluffy (as long as you don't add greasy foods or too much doughy or high-liquid-content scraps). The finished compost easily empties into a bucket just waiting for the spring garden. We've always had great success with Vitamix products, and this one did not disappoint.

Best ever
Ultimately quite. The refrigerator is noisier. Works great, well worth the price, turns everything to a powder. Takes about 6 hours. Start it before you go to bed, will be done in am.

A great way to recycle food waste. Good support if something goes wrong.
Our FoodCycler worked great for 2 months, and then it started getting harder and harder to insert the bucket into the machine. It felt like it didn't fit quite right until it finally clunked down and seated itself. After several weeks of this the bucket got stuck inside the machine and there was no way to remove it. VitaMix was great to work with. They asked us to box it up (luckily we kept the box) and they sent UPS to pick it up. They sent a new one quickly and within a few days we had a new one. Great customer service and a great product when it works. Fingers crossed...

My favourite kitchen gadget purchased within the last year
If you come to my house, you will hear me raving about this product. One of my friends saw it in action and immediately ordered one for herself. I love how I have completely cut down all my food waste down to almost nothing. Almost everything goes into it. I even put the dead leaves from my plants into it. It works so well. I live by myself, but somehow I find that I am running this machine nearly every other day. I do eat a lot of fruits and veggies, so I have a lot of skins, pits, and other non-edible organic materials to dump in the machine. The "compost" that comes out, gets dumped into a bin with soil to further break down a bit more and then can be used on plants. It's amazing! It's a bit of an investment, but it's totally worth it. My energy bill has not really gone up from running it. It does take around 6-8 hours to run. I run it usually over night when energy consumption is lower.I keep the scrap bin in the kitchen and the machine in another part of my house on the floor.

Upgrade from the original
I decided to take the plunge and upgrade to this, both for the larger capacity, and because it fits on a counter top (or in my case on top of a mini fridge) far better than the original. This one takes compostable plastics much better than the old. It is more powerful, and I love that I can easily refill the charcoal rather than prying a filter open to do it.This works great, if you use it correctly. If you put in too much fat, or sugar you are going to get clumps. If you maintain a balance of what you put in there, it'll come out good every time. Also if what you are putting in is a little wet, add some paper towels (or do what I do, and put used paper towels in there). If what you are putting in is SUPER wet, try to dry the contents more. You'll not only not get a good end product if it's super wet, but you will eat through charcoal much faster! The wetter the contents, the quicker the charcoal expires.
