The House in the Cerulean Sea (Cerulean Chronicles, 1) Paperback – September 16, 2021

I found this book due to a recommendation from an online friend and couldn't put down. It is a story of love and chosen family that even the hardened minds and hearts should read for it is silly, warm, and poignant!

I read this book in a day- beautifully written. I did not want it to end.

Heard lots about this book.After 1/2 way point, more predictable than I like.

表紙の青がキレイです。描かれている建物は孤児院。ここを封鎖するか継続するかの調査を任された40過ぎの仕事一筋/真面目一徹/規則厳守/ゲイ/小太りライナス・ベイカー君のお話しです。村から船に乗り ようやく到着する孤児院には 魔法が使えたり 特別な能力があったり 見た目も性格も違う個性的な6人の子ども達が 責任者のアーサーと暮らしています。DICOMY(魔法省)で働くライナス君は調査任務を与えられると ペットの猫と一緒に町を出て孤児院へ。任務期間は1ヶ月。クソがつくほど真面目なライナス君がこども達やアーサーを通して変化を受け入れ 殻を破り 新しい自分を発見します。こども達も同様に成長して行きます。この6人がやたら可愛い。とにかくお茶目でとても可愛い。「大盛りで奇想天外なストーリー」ではなく、日常生活の中で自分の悩みや課題を仲間と一緒に解決し成長していく「自分と向き合い 他人を受け入れる」お話しです。心に響くセリフや後から読み返したくなる文章がたくさん。高評価も納得です。作者もライナス君と同じくゲイ。作品を通して「人と違ってもいいんだよね」が良く伝わってきます。ハロウィン期間はホラーやミステリーを読んで 頭の中も心も血まみれになっていましたが この一冊で浄化されました。

The book was in good condition, moreover, I really like the story.

普通の子供とは異なる魔力や容貌を持つMagical Youthの「保護」と「養育」を担当する省Department in Charge of Magical Youthでケースワーカーとして働くさえない中年男性が、最悪な上司の命令で危険な子供が収容されている児童養護施設に送り込まれる。紺碧の海沿いにあるその施設で、男はこれまで気づきもしなかった家族愛やロマンスを見出し、自分が忠実に勤めてきた省に対抗する反骨精神を持つようになる。まるで児童書のような雰囲気の本だが、大人のLGBTQのロマンスも入っているので、どうやら大人向けらしい。前評判も良く、読者評価も高いし、心温まる本だが、私には表層的すぎるように感じた。

The writing, imagery, plot points, dramaturgical techniques are all SO expected. There is no distinction or uniqueness to this author’s semantic skills or prowess. It is as one would expect words to be laid out. It is sufficient but every character development, story element, description was exactly as one would foresee it to be.Which makes me suspect the author wants this book to be made into a easily adaptable film.It’s the lack of artistry that made this book serviceable but nothing to recommend or rave to others about. Would I recommend it? I guess — if you want to do or feel nothing when you read a novel. It is fine. That’s all and nothing more.It’s like eating an unsalted, unsweetened rice cracker. It’s fine but doesn’t do anything more or less.In school it would get a passing grade but neither rise to the top or fall to the bottom of the heap.
