A simple yet elegant mechanical pencil for drawing and writing
Beautifully made with a satisfying click-advance mechanism, this pencil feels good in the hand. It came with a B grade lead that's suitable for sketching and/or note-taking, and a compact self-contained sharpener that takes up minimal space in a pencil case/tin/wrap.The octagonal barrel feels good in the hand and gives it a classic wood pencil feel, and keeps it safe on the desk when you lay it down to prevent accidental rolling and falling and shattered leads.I have quite the collection of mechanical and clutch pencils and this one has become an instant favourite - the weight, build quality, looks, and functionality are all top notch, and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys writing and drawing with this type of pencil.

One for serious stationery lovers
I've got a couple of Hightide Penco Prime Timber Pencils (available on Amazon and places like thejournalshop.com). These Kitaboshi are exactly the same design and mechanism, you can even interchange parts. Only differences are: 1, the Kitaboshi has a plain (coated) wood barrel, not lacquered and branded like the Penco, and: 2, the Kitaboshi is a lot cheaper. They do both suffer from one slight design flaw. The wooden barrel is a fraction of a millimetre larger in diameter than the conic metal end. I found this really uncomfortable as it creates a sharp edge just where you want to hold it when writing. I took an emery board to the wood and gradually round off the last 6mm or so. If you want to, you can do a really nice neat job and even reapply some sort of finish, but I wasn't bothered, leaving the wood exposed and natural. In fact it makes it look aged, like I've worn it down with years of dedicated writing in a war zone. Either way it makes it much more comfy to use.

I love the old Skool feel
Great pencil. The wooden like feel to it makes this pencil such a great sketching tool as opposed to many metallic lead holder pencils. I love it so much, I had to get a spare.

Very impressive mechanical 2mm lead holder
One of the best mechanical pencils I've ever come across. The lead holder advance mechanism works incrementally exceedingly well, unlike most lead holders which don't have this feature. The wooden outer layer feels very comfortable to hold and is very well balanced. My only slight negative would be a lack of a pocket clip, but with most artists or drafters this wouldn't be a problem. At this price point for me it was a no-brainer.

Quality Mechanical Pencil
MAYBE a bit pricey but it is a beautiful piece... nicely finished, comfortable diameter. Not slippery. Getting a couple more as I really like it

Average
The only thing different about this lead holder is that it exposes the lead incrementally when you press the top instead of letting the lead slide out as most others do. I don't find this to be an advantage one way or the other. It is a little lighter in weight than some others, but I would recommend buying what feels good or what is cheaper.
