Expensive - You get what you pay for :)
I saw a few people using the Wimberley MH-100 at our local nature reserve and looked so practical.Looking in to it, it was expensive, more than I wanted to spend. :(Anyway, I decided to get one, and my, I am so impressed. :)Is it just a coincidence that over the last couple of months I have had some of my best ever photos of birds in flight? I don't thinks so!It balances the lens perfectly (Canon RF 100-500).It is so easy to pan the camera with the MH-100.Easy to move around.Much more control than with a ball head or traditional pan & tilt head.More flexible than a full gamble. It is very well made, a little heavy, but solid.I am sure it will last for many years. Why did I not get one before?

It is the best monopod head for big lens
I have tried quite a few monopod (Gitzo 4552L) head including Really Right Stuff, Acratech, Sunwayfoto, etc. for my 800/5.6 lens, this one is the best. It is the easiest to control and most comfortable to carry around. Thanks Wimberley.

not good with heavy lenses
This is a nicely built bit of kit, but there is a design flaw. The Mono Gimbal Head mounts the lens and camera to the side. The bigger the lens the further the centre of gravity is from the monopod shaft. This causes the monopod to tilt to the side and means the monopod isn't taking all the weight of the camera and lens, which to some extent defeats the purpose.

Wimberly Monogimbal: A game-changer!
I've used monopods for over 40 years, especially when I photographed professional sports as a photojournalist, using long lenses like 600mm. Monopods are essential, but this Wimberly Monogimbal is a GAME CHANGER. It allows you to balance the lens in horizontal position, but it is free rotating so that you can easily aim the lens up or down without having to tilt the monopod. The other day I was photographing a bald eagle high overhead in a tree, and with my tall monopod fully extended and using the Monogimbal, I was able to almost point the camera straight up, which you can't do without a head like this. But the beauty is, unlike other monopod heads, when you let go of the camera (holding on to the monopod) it doesn't flop forward or backward. The lens just returns to a neutral, horizontal position if it's balanced properly, or stays at any position without being held there. You can tighten the knob and lock it into any position though. I cannot say enough good things about this Wimberly monopod head. It's small, it's beautifully made, it's as smooth as silk, and it's perfect. I also have the Wimberley Sidekick gimbal head adapter for my tripod, but I don't use it as much as this Monogimbal.

The best gimbal head to put on a monopod
Really fantastic piece of equipment. A must for birding if you have to walk carrying a camera with long lens on a monopod. Gives you all the stability you want. Extremely satisfied.
