About the Artist Alemayehu Eshete A true Ethiopian legend, Alemayehu has contributed a great deal to the development of Ethiopian music as a writer, composer, arranger and singer. During his musical career, Alemayehu has produced and recorded many songs that have made him an icon in Ethiopian music. Aside from their musical superiority, his songs often contain powerful messages that still resonate today. Among his achievements, in 1984, he won a Tchaikovsky composition award at the International Music Festival in Dresden, Germany. Hamelmal Abate Hamelmal Abate is one of the shining new stars in the rapidly expanding firmament of international music. This album (a debut for AIT Records) is considered one of the best that the Roha band has recorded . The Roha band had dominated the Ethiopian music scene in the 1980s and early 1990s. The Roha band has recorded over 250 recordings with various renowned Ethiopian singers. Kuku Sebsibe Geezze is Kuku Sebsibes finest work to date. Kuku has been performing traditional and modern Ethiopian music for over 15 years. Her amazing voice has catapulted her to stardom, earning her the title of Ethiopias Sweetheart. Kuku currently resides and performs in the U.S. Dawit Messay Mellesse Dawit Mellesse is one of Ethiopias hottest new artists. His original style fuses Ethiopian contemporary music with a variety of world beats to create an intoxicating sound. Dawit, before coming to the U.S., has worked with the Roha band, Abysinnian band, Ethio-Stars band, Hager Fikir band, Sevan band and Express Band in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
