After a dozen $5 seats tried several of the high-quality seats with the all-metal hinges that allow the removal of the seat for cleaning. The metal they all use is zink based, even the brass colored ones. Clorox cleaner eats zinc and it ate the hinges of several toilet seats of mine. This seat is all plastic but feels like a wood seat. It is solid and stable, good looking and the metal pins that are its hinges are stainless steel, so they should be long-lasting. the only thing to watch is not to use an overly abrasive cleaner as it will scuff up the nice shiny finish and cannot be repainted as the traditional wooden seats can. I am sure there are toilet seats made with all brass hinges that cost $100 or whatever, but for the price of this seat, I can see how it can be beaten. It would make an exceptional choice for those who own rental property as I do. These seats are tough as nails, very stable, even with tenants that weigh well over 300 lbs. I had gotten used to having to replace 2 of the $5 "cheap seats" a year for some tenants. I am excited to have finally found a product that will last and not look like it belongs in a high school. A good looking product that performs well for the cost. Very easy to clean as well.

I was initially very satisfied with this purchase; quality was good, the soft close feature is great and it seemed very durable. Unfortunately, after just s few weeks, the lid came off the top of the seat. The metal piece that holds the lid on had somehow worked itself too far into the interior of the attachment. We managed to pull the metal piece out and reattach the lid and I thought we were good to go. Not so. Just a couple of weeks later, the metal piece on the opposite side of the seat did the same thing. My guess is that it has something to do with the soft close feature. Maybe you'll be luckier with your purchase, but mine is a dud.

I bought this back in January and it is June. It was very easy to install, and the design is great. It is comfortable and easy to keep clean. The covered screws are an amazing improvement over my old one. With the old one, the screws would get rusted, and the seat shifted constantly. With this one, the problem was solved. No shifting, easy to remove, easy to clean, and comfortable. Can't ask for much more from your toilet seat.

We purchased this as a replacement for toto toilet seat that stopped self-closing. It was recommended as the alternate replacement to the toto brand. While it is ok and it does fit and close correctly, it is not the same rear-end fit as the original. It seems harder and less open, making it a little less comfortable to sit in.

My dad is an accidental slammer - now that he’s getting older, it’s really starting to bother my mom when she’s laying down. TA-DA! You would have thought I gave them $500 instead of buying a soft close toilet seat!

This Centoco 1700SC-301 Luxury Safety Close Elongated Toilet Seat, Crane White is the correct replacement for the TOTO SS114-01 Transitional SoftClose Elongated Toilet Seat, Cotton White. I purchased it for my Toto toilet in June 2012 and it fits like the original seat, looks like the original seat and does the soft close perfectly! Toto changed the design and supplier of their seats in 2008/2009 (I talked to Toto USA and confirmed that the seat design was changed then). You will note that if you search for the parts list for the original SS114 it has this note "Note: Manufactured by Centoco for TOTO USA, Inc." Note that my Toto toilet model is the Carlyle®. You must check with your Toto parts list and note whether the toilet was designed for the SS114 seat.UPDATED: June 10, 2013 - Amazon please find a new supplier for this seat!! When you switched suppliers from "PlumberSurplus" (June 2012) to "UnbeatableSale" the shipping cost went up from $12.84 to $32.09!! The cost of the seat went from $42.22 to $40.72. So now you save $1.50 on the cost of the seat but the shipping went UP by $19.25 which is more than double!! PLEASE find a different supplier with a less expensive shipping cost!!

The soft close is really nice and the seat is very comfortable. This is in my guest bathroom in FL, so no extreme temps. Just past 1 year of purchase, the plastic connector on the hinge somehow broke. All the talk of customer service and American made and all that is just marketing. Company refused any help or warranty (admittedly, outside of 1 year, but by 2 weeks). Considering how little use this got, disappointing for it to break so easily with no repair or replacement option. Next time, ill just spend the extra for Kohler...

The pads touching the toilet slide when you,,,,use it. The screws don't let you tighten it enough to avoid this either.

Works as it's supposed to.

I thought I was ordering a round seat because that's what was described. I thought it would be slow closing and that it would have some release to detach the seat from the mount for easy cleaning like the seat for our other toilet. What I got was an elongated seat with stiff hinges and no release mechanism at all. The label shows regular bowl. The picture of the seat it set on top of the existing round seat, which we are replacing because it isn't a slow-closing seat and slams. One can see the new seat is elongated not round. I'll send this back and try another. Guess it was too much to ask that a seat for $60cdn would be as described.

The quality of this product would have to get better just to suck!! The slow close feature does not work. You have to literally shove it hard to close it. The seller sent the wrong colour so it didn't match the toilet, and of course no returns are allowed!! So no matter the quality or the fact the the order was filled wrong, the customer is stuck with it!! Lesson learned!! Beware!!
