could i use this for watercolor painting if i use watercolor paper and i tape it down with masking tape?

I really think I got a defective board. Pressing the clips does nothing!! Please help with your feedback.

Would this be the ideal board for paper that runs 11 x14? Sometimes I go smaller in size but this is my max size presently. Will it be a good fit?

Can this board be used without a table? As in can I just put it on my lap and use it? Is it hard enough so that it won't bend?
