How to Grow Perennial Vegetables: Low-maintenance, low-impact vegetable gardening

Very useful book for the Forest garden
Another very useful book from Martin Crawford. The same setup as his 'Creating a Forest Garden' book. Only thing I was missing is some more categorizing the types of vegetables. Now it is an alphabetical summing up all that you can grow on Perennial Vegetables.

Low Maintenance Food Forest anyone?
I always thought that gardening was just too much work. But I like the philosophy of growing perennial plants particularly edible "weeds". It's my fantasy to plant and the only work I ever do is just harvest, food prep and eating.

Known and Lesser Known Perennials In A Nutshell
There is no one book that can tell you how to grow everything, but this book is such a handy reference guide to start with when learning about perennials. I keep it handy. Crawford introduces it with a long section dealing with polyculture, and unless you are already well familiar with permaculture, you will learn a lot. In the A-Z plant section you will come across maybe a hundred plants of varying edibility; quite a few are easy to grow and very tasty. The author gives a short description of each along with rudimentary growing instructions. He includes zone hardiness information as well. I keep this on my shelf right next to Eric Toensmeir's 'Perennial Vegetables.'

Great book Lousy binding
Really enjoy the book.I think it's very well done, and useful. The 4 star is because the binding falls apart from the first day of reading and pages fall out. This is mentioned by another reviewer.Otherwise, I'd give it five stars.

Awesome gardening book!
Perrenial vegetables, what an amazing thing! I think if more people read this book and were sold on the subject then gardening would take a very different direction. Crawford really lays the information out succinctly. It is also a great companion to Creating a Forest Garden. Really great pictures and format too!

Everyone need to do this instead of annual veggies
Everyone need to do this instead of annual veggies! I had no idea there were so many plants that produce food year after year and you only have to plant them once! What a great idea! I want to plant nothing but perennial veggies and trees now!

The way to garden
I think this and aquaponics are the future of food production. Permanent vegetables make so much sense. 3 more words.

Clearly written and well illustrated.
Full of helpful, experience based planting suggestions. Martin has described plants that were familiar and native to the British Isles but our climate is fine for many food plants from all over the world. The book describes how to cultivate and propagate each one, and makes it clear which soil and situation they need to thrive. Its a book for those of us who are serious about feeding ourselves without destroying the precious layer of topsoil that stands between us and famine. Photos and sketches add beauty and utility. Thank you.

Learn to ear "weeds"
Everything I've read from Martin Crawford has been fascinating, throwing a light on what normally passes unnoticed. There's a wealth of information here presented in a very easily assimilated way in a very attractive book .... the result has seen me happily visit the garden and pick dandelion leaves for a salad and even eat the flowers. You see the plants around you in a different light - just the job!

Fell to pieces
The content of this volume is excellent, let down by the poor binding. The sort of book one wishes to read and refer to often but it just won't stand up to it. My copy fell to pieces after 30 weeks but was replaced by the publishers almost instantly on complaining so this one will be treated with far more gentleness! 3/10 for binding but 10/10 for service!

Excellent book, very useful in planning and harvesting perennial vegetables
I have thoroughly enjoyed this book, and have probably not had it for long enough to find out whether I shall share the major complaint here about binding! I have been planning a perennial vegetable garden for the last couple of years, based on rather disparate research sources. This book brings all of the research together and enables me to fully plan the space. I like the attention to detail in terms of being very specific about the depth of root systems and tolerance to shade for certain planting choices. It has also informed me about a lot of non-native choices which I think will be very useful in providing year round pickings. I am sure there is plenty more to learn, but I feel much more confident about starting my perennial garden with the help of this book!
