Seeing unique events captured on dash cams I developed an interested in getting one for my vehicle. Researching dash cams added confusion from all the various entries, most looking the same, with pricing varying from a few dollars to near a thousand dollars. I accidently came across the Cowon AW-1 when researching another Wi-Fi project. The videos I saw on YouTube and the information I saw at the manufacture's website convinced me to try this dash cam, the first I've ever tried. This was the only dash cam I could find several videos, including night, tunnel, and bright daylight.After a few days of operation I can say, if you are looking for a dash cam, this is the one to get. The Wi-Fi is awesome as is the application for my Android smart phone. The first time I connected to the dash cam, the application detected a newer firmware version and installation was seamless. Video streaming works well as does searching for video clips based on time or events. Configuring the dash cam by Wi-Fi was straight forward and fairly intuitive.The dash cam does run warm but I have not had any missing video time periods. I decided not to add the optional GPS interface so I do not have firsthand knowledge of its operation. I run the dash cam off of the cigar lighter plugs which is switched on and off by the ignition switch. When I start my truck, the dash cam starts recording and when I turn off my ignition, the camera, using it's built in power source, finishes the current recording, and gracefully shuts down the dash cam.The dash cam comes complete with a long power cable, mounting hardware, a 16 GB micro SD memory card and reader, and PC application. The unit is well designed and well made. I highly recommended the Cowon AW-1.

It worked for 1 day. The following day I started my car and the camera did not turn on. I found the fuse blown in the adapter that plugs into the cigarette lighter. A trip to Radio Shack and I had 4 new fuses. I replaced the fuse in the parking lot and the camera turned on. The fuse blew again after about 10 minutes. After replacing the fuse again it blew immediately. I return the unit and got a replacement. No fuse problems this time. However, it would not recognize the memory card. I connected the memory card to my PC and I could write to it and read from it. I tried a 2nd card. Same problem. I returned the unit for a refund.

Hello...Unit Cowon AW1...First review on this product. While I had high hopes for it, I will say that it falls short of expectations.1) The unit ger VERY HOT and shuts itself down based on the heat. Hello...this is made to be in the windshield of a car. It will be in direct sunlight. You need better heat sinks.2) It DOES NOT HAVE a GPS Receiver. It is OPTIONAL however it is not available anywhere for purchase. In other words....NO GPS. For the price of the unit...it should have it already.3) Hardwire install kit is also nowhere to be found.4) Customer support from the company is more or less NON-EXISTENT. They do not respond at all after several emails directly, though their site, and via they Q&A system that you must register to use. NO REPLIES at all.For such a company with a very nice looking site...it is hard to believe that this unit falls so short.The video quality of the camera is nice, when it runs and is not shut down based on heat. It has issues detecting driving mode vs parked mode. (Ver 1.9 of firmware which is current.)The app is nice, however while I can stream live video for setup... I can not stream videos that were recorded. It fails. To see the videos you then need to download them and then play them back.All in all, lack of support. Lack of being able to even buy the "options", and it not being able to stay running based on the temperature (It was only 76 degrees out) makes this unit on it's way back to Amazon.Such a shame really.UPDATE - JULY 5th...After taking a trip with it and needing to look back at some video. We were shocked to find how much was MISSING! Yes, missing. We would find gaps of 5 to 10 mins of time. It was set to record 1 min video files which should pick up right where it left off file after file. Nope, we would look at a file, then want to continue fron where that file ended so we would then play the next file. However, we came to find out the next file was 5 minutes later. (Heat issues again?)Still, TO THIS DAY, I have had no contact from the manufacturer after 3 attempts. One even though their support website! STAY AWAY IF YOU THINK YOU WILL NEED SUPPORT.

Works perfect, quality is HD as advertised. Included adhesives haven't faltered since I installed it last year. Records all the time, has never drained my battery as it turns off at battery level you can specify for when your car is parked for several days. Transfer files via smart card and built in wifi. Live view also available front and back.Worst part is that the wireless related functions can sometimes take a while to load depending on your smart phone. But I rarely use them to review recorded video on the go.Very smart packaging, housing feels solid.

I use this for rear window auto camera in my 2015 Toyota Highlander. It works well, but restarts after every bump.

So I used to live in Korea, where every car has a device similar to one of these. I found them to be one of those kind of things that I'd rather have and not need, than need and not have. Now this one (Cowon AW1) is a pretty good device. The quality is very good, sharp, clear picture. The Android app has been updated multiple times since I've owned the device too. I bought the power cable that you can wire directly into the electrical system. I would really like to get a 2nd one, but the cost is somewhat prohibitive. wi-fi is not connecting. It keeps restarting, keeps disconnecting right out of box. System error occurred and again and again. "Staring Auto capsule, starting driving recording, system error occurred..." again and again. This is the worst product I ever purchased.
