This chess set represents a good value and is well made and attractive for its price point . The wood is named "Rosy Ringwood" and boxwood in the item description but the shipping label indicates it is made from Babul wood and Boxwood. Both babul wood and Rosewood come from the acacia family but have different Latin names and thus are different species. What is unusual about the pieces is that they are darker stained than most other chess pieces and come out as a blackish red in the dark piece and a camel brown in the light piece which I found attractive . This set would look attractive on a darker black/ white board. There is some wood grain appearance loss in the staining process as the stain is semi-opaque. The carving detail is quite acceptable. The set weighed in at about 2lb 3 oz which is more than the stated weight and decently hefty. I measured the King's base diameter and it came out at 1.493" considerably more than the advertised 1.34". This isn't a problem in itself , actually a positive BUT it does suggest aboard square of 2" would be much more suitable then the 1.75" mentioned in the product description. Although 1.75 would work the board would look a little "tight". I've found a King base diameter to board square size ratio works best between .62 and .82 , with .65-.75 being the sweet spot for both ease of play and overall board appearance. To recap 5 stars for price value quality. Good purchase.

Purchased these for my wife, who had been wanting a nice set of weighted, regulation pieces. They are very lovely. Nicely sculpted and satisfyingly weighted. They go great with her chess table as well. Perfect size and color.

Just received this set, and I am really pleased with it. The pieces stand and glide beautifully on my recently refinished tournament size chess board. Carving is spot on, finish is just right, and the piece weight feels perfect. Now if I could only play chess as well as these pieces look. Maybe they'll inspire me to take it up a notch.

Colors were nice, weight was nice. looks good on board with 2 inch squares. Knights are well done

First, I have not personally seen the set, but my son’s family seem to be well pleased. Even my son said he was going to read the chess book in order to compete with his four kids. I told him that playing chess developed focus and problem solving skills, and that was the primary motivation for the gift. Great gift with lasting value.

Both black queens have chipped crowns... Other than that good set.

These pieces are beautifully made. The design is attractive, They are nicely weighted, and the finish is perfect It looks and feels like a much more expensive set. As a bonus it was very well packed and arrived 3 days ahead of the estimated date.

Great set. Very nice quality. The detail on the knights is outstanding. The pieces are fairly big, so you probably want to pair with a good sized board. I think they look great with 2" squares..
