Perfect protection and UV filter for my Tamron 70-200
Perfect protection and UV filter for my Tamron 70-200mm lens. I like the solidness of it and I was worried it would be to think as I read reviews the tread didn't fit properly, but it was no problem. My photos look better than with the last filter I had.

Good build quality, but the 707711 multi-coated is better...
I have owned this filter for about 2 years now and use it to protect my Canon 24-105 4.0L lens. The build quality and fit is perfect - although, after it has been on the lens for a while, it can be hard to remove, especially since it's built very slim and you don't have much space to grab it. However, I believe this is just a result of the very tight and precise fit of the thread. I managed to get it off after a while...Cleaning is very easy with isopropanol wipes, and the glass dries nicely, without residues. I haven't noticed any scratches but I took good care of it, so I can't really judge how rugged it is.Overall, an excellent filter to protect your expensive lens, no vignetting at wide angle, served me well over 2 years...so far so good,BUT...recently I got another lens and, with it, the SH-PMC multicoated version of this filter (Heliopan 707711). Same design, same build quality... but the anti-reflective coating on the SH-PMC filter is definitely better than this one. When you hold both filters next to each other under a light source, the difference in reflected light is clearly visible. In terms of image quality, I haven't done any direct face-to-face comparison on the same scene. However, I believe with the SH-PMC filter I do have less glare and a bit more sharpness especially in outdoor, back-light situations. This is a very subjective statement, though.

Best in class (and Glass) but you pay for it
If money is no object (in Canada this sells for over $150), and you want (likely) the highest quality filter, then this is for you.Personally, I feel that the Schott glass that is used to make the B+W filters is just as good (perhaps a lab test could prove me wrong, but I don't think the human eye can tell the difference), and I would rather have the extra $$ in my wallet. They are amazing filters, but the price knocks it down a notch for me.
