About Keith Haring. Keith Haring was an artist and activist who frequently used his art to speak about social issues. He was one of the most renowned of the young artists, filmmakers, performers and musicians whose work responded to urban street culture of the 80s.. Haring pushed his own youthful impulses toward a singular kind of graphic expression based on the primacy of the line.. Throughout his career, Haring devoted much of his time to public works, which often carried social messages.
