this book saved my life. kindle edition is whacky though
Ok, I have to put my two cents in just because this book deserves it. I struggled right from the get go with nursing. I thought taking a hospitals idea of a breastfeeding course was going to prepare me for the obviously simple and natural act of feeding my baby. Ive never been more naive in my entire life. From a super Medicated sleepy baby to tons of horribly wrong info and advice, from tongue tie to hypoplasia (lack of mammary tissue) I had the odds stacked against me. I ended up with a fussy unhappy jaundiced baby, nurses and doctors who pushed formula and the most painful bruised vasospasmed bloody blistered nipples imaginable. I was in hell and this book rescued me. I was told to read the le leche league book, the womanly art of breastfeeding, if you have ever had any problems breastfeeding and have had to resort to supplementing with formula don't read their book. It will tear you up and make you feel like an evil person for ruining your baby's digestive tract. This book helps you trouble shoot while encouraging you and giving you so many suggestions on what ti try to help your situation. I spent so much time in the galactagogue section and have tried many combinations. That info is indispensable. This book helped ne identify all the numerous problems that I and my baby had. It explained that I wasn't failing and that there was so much hope fir the next baby. This book redefined success and gave me the encouragement I needed to keep going even though I was in extreme pain and mental distress over my inadequacies. I am proudly at 6&1/2 months breastfeeding my son and I still have to supplement with an sns but I am so lucky to be supplementing with a donor mom's oversupply of breastmilk. My son is thriving and we have a wonderful relationship all because if this book and support on the le leche league forums.About the kindle version...it hops around in some spots ...so annoying given there are no page numbers to navigate with. I still don't know if I have read it all the way through. In chapter ten I think one of the pages if you try to continue your page turning will hop to the glossary. Because I am so dependent upon this book I will buy the actual bound book to cherish and reread during each pregnancy. So if you have ever had supply issues or suffered breastfeeding woes get this book! Also on another note, if you have oversupply, consider donating to us moms who are lactihandicapped. I pray every day for my donor mom, I have never been more humbled and happy for someone 's generousity in all my life. Check out milkshare . Com for more info

This book ROCKS!
This book was an AWESOME READ! I struggled to nurse with my first son because he had a poor latch and was a VERY slow eater - 45 mins+ at each feeding! (Try doing that every 2 hours and you get NOTHING else done in life!) I ended up pumping exclusively for 9 months and it about wore me out. I was a slave to that pump and to the clock! When I got pregnant again I was determined to educate myself about nursing so I could slam dunk the nursing experience with my new baby. I came across this book and read it cover to cover. Let me tell you... it was a GOD SEND. This book had a TON of information in it. My 2nd son is now 8.5 mos old and is a nursing champ! I also started taking Fenugreek daily (2 pills in AM and 2 in PM) from the first week I was home from the hospital. Let me tell you - I am a milk making machine!!! I have about a 4-5 month supply in a deep freezer and most of that came from the extra milk I pumped AFTER NURSINGS. I think because I educated myself and understood the milk making process and how the breasts produce milk I could relax, take it easy and enjoy my nursing relationship with my son.... thus making more milk. It was also a great reference tool many times in the first several months.Nursing is certainly NOT easy for everyone. And it is a huge committment no matter who you are. (I stuggled with the latch with my 2nd son for several weeks. But, I didn't give up & I consulted a professional who helped me fix the problem!) Since reading this book I have purchased 3 more copies to give as baby shower gifts to future nursing mommies and have loaned out my copy to mommies struggling to boost supply now.If you are on the fence about this book... Just get it and read it. You won't be disappointed. The info can only help you. When you are done with it... pass it on and help another mommy out!Also- one more thing... The other book that was great and helped me a lot was Breastfeeding Made Simple: Seven Natural Laws for Nursing Mothers.Get both books and read them! You will be totally set up for a successful feeding experience!Happy Nursing new mommies!

Should be on every breastfeeding mom's bookshelf!
I am blessed with a beautiful baby boy who happens to be a very sleepy baby. Although my milk supply came in relatively close to delivery, it wasn't keeping pace with what he needed (due to his sleeping at the breast, there wasn't enough stimulation to signal my body for more!). We had to start supplementing with formula at 1 and a half weeks. My supply slowly caught up with him through a lot of pumping and many weeks of trying to keep a sleepy baby awake to nurse.I was surrounded by support during my intial weeks of nursing, but I got this book looking to boost and support my hard-won milk supply as I transitioned back to work. The tables of galactogogues, chapters on hormonal issues, and the easy-to-understand milk-supply "equation" utilized in this book helped me pinpoint what I should and could do to support my supply.I gave it four stars because the index is not the most accurate or helpful, but I am sure subsequent editions will fix this issue! I am glad I will have this book to help with subsequent children - I only wish I bought it sooner!

Muy útil!
El libro está muy bien, explica muchas posibles causas y las soluciones por las cuales puede haber baja producción de leche. Además habla sobre algunos galactologos

So I think it's more useful for professional than to moms
I did not have time to read it after the baby's born. If you read prior to the birth, many info might not apply to your case. So I think it's more useful for professional than to moms.

Excelente
Excelente libro de cabecera para madres con dudas sobre su producción de leche durante la lactancia. Incluso para asesoras es una joya.

Wonderful informative, pragmatic, and non-judgemental book.
What I liked about this book is that it takes a remarkably pragmatic view of the potential problems a woman can experience during breastfeeding.Unlike what seems like lot of other books it doesn't come across as preachy, there are no chapters that make you feel guilty if it breastfeeding doesn't work (when you're trying to breastfeed and it's not working well, it can be very frustrating, and the last thing you want is another book implying you're a bad mother if you don't breastfeed) instead it takes the view that you bought this book because you have already decided want to breastfeed as much as possible and you want help with your problems - the book treats you like an adult. The book goes not quite a bit of detail, and is not exactly the easiest read. However it does go through a lot of potential problems, and it explains each of them quite well and what you can do about these them, and it even devotes enough space to the problems from the baby's side (e.g. if the baby doesn't want to latch on).If you get the chance, try to get it and read through it before the child arrives, because it's not an easy subject, but even after the child has arrived it's well worth it.
