Starting To Get Stale
You may recall that this series is about the Squad Jam tournament, and this is no exception. This time, LLENN's entering into the third Squad Jam, but with two twists. The first is that she's fighting with a team of four, along with M, Fuka and Pito. The second is that there are some new rules, one of which is revealed at the end of the volume in an effective cliffhanger.Unfortunately, while there are some entertaining gun battles and clever tactics, Squad Jam is getting stale. The first Squad Jam established the event, while the second had some crucial differences- in addition to the higher stakes, LLENN was the leader of her two-person squad, instead of following M's orders (since M was her opponent). This time, M's once again in charge, and there's less at stake, so it doesn't feel as though LLENN is growing as meaningfully this time.Overall, this isn't a bad volume by any means, but the series is starting to stagnate and get repetitive. Let's hope that future volumes shake things up a bit more.

Great quick read
I enjoyed this one quite a lot. A lot of familiar faces return and the focus is almost purely on the ingame tournament. If you've liked past GGO content it's likely you'll enjoy this as well.I will say the writing itself or the translation thereof could do with improvement. The prose can feel a little odd and sometimes flashbacks make the flow feel clumsy.

Great series
I will never stop reading the SAO series no matter how many or what kind of books come out!

Love the series but this entry feels a bit hollow.
I loved the first three volumes of SAO Alternative. Unfortunately this one doesn't quite match up and ultimately feels bland and repetitive. It's more of the same - another Squad Jam - and while the story is fun, there's nothing major at stake while a rule twist at the end sets up a mildly interesting cliffhanger for volume five.Llenn herself often seems like she's just going through the motions, as she states multiple times that she didn't even want to sign up for this tournament. Personally I hope future stories will focus on the characters' lives and their interactions in the real world. As it is, still a mildly enjoyable entry if you already love the series.
