One cannot truly understand LA politics without grasping the economic, political and social power of the Chandler family. This documentary is educational in that regard, but it's very slanted to the left and doesn't try to hide its disdain for the Republican, pro-business Chandlers whose leadership and foresight helped shape the city. The film does give credit to "Buff" Chandler, whose admirable arm twisting brought much needed culture to Southern California, but even that accomplishment is approached with reproach.

Excellent documentary
Excellent documentary if you're interested in learning how the L.A. Times made Los Angeles the way it is.

Inventing LA: The Chandlers and Their Times.
Outstanding documentary, honestly and fairly presented, even when segments are not flattering to the Chandlers. As a former journalist I enjoyed it immensely, and as an educational piece about newspapers I think it will be well received by viewers.Yvonne MartinLake Forest, California
