Annual. Blooms late summer to fall. 6'-10' tall. Full sun. This is the big one! Native American flower with heads up to 12 in diameter have faces that 'follow the sun'. Grow them for a tall hedge or privacy spring, to use as cut flowers (just one would fill a vase!), or for the plentiful edible seeds for birds and humans. The young shoots are also edible as sprouts or a fresh-looking garnish, and the unopened buds may be steamed like artichokes. They have very fast growth, up to 6" a week, are drought-tolerant and long blooming. Successive sowings every 2 weeks will give you flowers into fall.

Mammoth!
They grow! and fast! I only planted one, in late Summer (August 23rd), indoors.It is late October and this thing is six feet tall, with elephant ear leaveswith the flower bud well advanced. It drinks water two or three glasses a day.It's a job indoors. These things are kind of weird; the leaves go down at nightlike they go to sleep. One exception; I planted a second one, a week later, in the same pot,and it grew much slower, possibly the first plants roots took all the nutrients.I transplanted it to a secoond pot and it has grown more but never recovered.Oops. I left out the fact that I did have to use a wooden pole to support it.It would fall over. Either, I did plant it too late or they can only be plantedoutside in groups to support each other.

Great so far!
I just got these in the mail and the package it came it was great. Very well put together! The only reason I am giving this 4 stars is b/c its still to cold to start growing them. (but im sure i wont have any problem) I hope to have the biggest sunflowers in the whole town!

100% germination! Transplanting tomorrow barring rain.
So far these are great, it will be a few months before I know if they meet up to the expected size as per the description, but I feel certain they will.I only planted 25 so far, I will spread them out over 2 months so I can have some last blooms.With the first 25 I have 100% germination, which blows Hirts' germination rate away.I am very happy with these seeds.

Planted these today and....
only half of the seeds were usable the other half had bug holes in them. These are not the kind of holes that happen in the seed packet this is the kind that happen on the plant while the flower is blooming. I grow a lot of sunflower and I know what I'm talking about when it comes to the quality of these seeds I just hope the other half produce something but I will not hold my breath on that.

Not as advertised!.
Very few seeds germinated and the ones that did are puny. Don't waste your money on this product. I am disappointed.

Easy to Grow and Beautiful!
My girlfriend and I planted these in a flower bed on my apartment porch in San Diego. We followed the instructions and 4 of the 5 seeds germinated and turned into beautiful sunflowers. So cool!
