The Gun Digest Book of the AR-15

I have the whole set and this one doesn’t disappoint. Good for the novice as well as the more experienced enthusiast.

This is written by the premier expert with the AR. Patrick Sweeney teaches Police and Military experts in AR usage. The writer will make you laugh with his dry sense of humor and in obviously in-depth knowledge that will keep you interested and informed. I read two chapters at a time each night and look forward to it all day. I cannot find a better source of information on the history, evolution and current state of the modern AR and all of the many accessories and variations that are growing by the day. Patrick takes a dry and scientific subject and makes it light and fun as well as informative. There are lots of photos and examples that accompany the text. There are 5 books as of the writing of this review and each is different and equally enlightening; I own them all after reading this first one. A must have if you own, or are planning to own, an AR. I believe that the author could write on any dry subject and make it interesting. He also writes for many of the premier gun magazines and his articles are often re-printed from the past as relevant today. A modern day Mark Twain.

This is the most detailed book about Ar-15s I have ever read. The author Patrick Sweeny is world renowned and knows what he is talking about much more than your average gun joe. Some aspects of the book are inaccurate since the book is 10 years old. About the only inaccurate thing I know of is the fact that he says Bushmasters are reliable guns and if you were to buy one now that was new it wouldn't be because they were bought out. Anyways, there is much to learn and this book is very scientific.

One of the best books on the AR-15. It exceeded my expectations even though it was printed so long ago. If Patrick Sweeney updated it with the latest info, it would far exceed anything I've read in book form to date. I'm sure that would be a huge undertaking so I will go with the 'old' information, which is still quite applicable.The only color picture you will get is the front cover. Everything else is in black and white paper, which is good, to keep the costs down. For what you pay for it, though, it is worth every penny. I keep referring back to it over and over. Details. Details.

This is a really good book, although it's a bit dated now. However, it includes a lot of fundamentals that are still applicable to AR owners, so it's still worth reading.

Patrick Sweeney is very informative in regards the AR15. I bought the rest of the series. I can't wait for the fifth edition, by the way, is he writing another book of the AR15 anytime soon?

I recently purchased this book and was a bit disappointed at first with the black and white pics, and the poor quality of the paper. But, "don't judge a book by its cover". Although the structure of the book took a couple of chapters to settle, I found the book an interesting read and well worth the effort.I found some ideas however to be too 'personal taste' and opinionated, almost as if to have to 'justify' a certain course of action or line of thinking. Also he in my view spent too much paper trying to explain that he "didn't keep any of the guns or equipment", and that the content is only as good as the level of participation of the manufacturers. I also picked up at least four grammer- and spelling mistakes in the text.The history of the AR-15 was very well summarised for someone like me who is new to the AR. I would have liked to have seen some of the data and findings to be rather summarised in a table of graph, but that is a matter of personal taste.The author is really passionate about the AR-15 and one can see that he had a lot of fun doing the research. He is the type of genuine guy who I'd love to have a good lunch with and listen to all his stories about the gun. I'll definitely be looking out for the next book!
