This is the real original cover art paperback.
I’m eating this five stars despite all the flaws on the physical book itself. The physical flaws are minor scratches on the spine and front cover, bent corners and part of the front spine corner is bent. Past the first three pictures I included pictures of all the flaws I found that really stood out so you can see what I’m talking about.I’m rating this five stars more based on the fact I even got this exact book at all. I wanted to reread (and finish reading) the Sisters Grimm series with my girlfriend. I used to have the entire series, but I’m missing a few now, I think I was specifically missing 1,2,7, and maybe 3, but I’m not quite sure.I went on amazon figuring yeah they’ll have what I’m looking for. But the majority of listings are for either the new anniversary edition ones which redid the art, or if they are listed as this edition with this cover art, people get scammed and just get the new edition anyways. This is the only listing that provided the buy new option (which yes I clicked that one) and had a decent price for new and used copies. And this is the real deal. It’s not some fake listing pretending to be this version of the book. So if you’re looking for the original cover art, and you’ve come to this listing, buy from this specific one. Because I can guarantee you’ll get the right book.

Snicket meets Dripping Fang in the Everafter
If viewed separately, the fundamental ideas behind this book have all been done before. Disappearing parents, kids in foster care, unsuitable guardians, mysterious grandmothers and fractured fairy tales have all been covered many times. Yet somehow when this book pulls all these elements together, it works like a charm. Darker than a Snicket, and as gross as Dripping Fang, this book will be sure to appeal to young adults who prefer the darker side of stories. Wusses need not apply here.Sabrina and Daphne Grimm have been passed from guardian to guardian since the disappearance of their parents, and have developed a reputation for being difficult children. They are stunned to learn that they are going to be living with their grandmother, especially as they had been told that she had died years before. They soon learn that Ferryport Landing is no ordinary New York suburb, and that it has as many weird denizens as Manhattan during Fashion Week. Known as Everafters, some of the residents are famous in their own right, such as the Mayor, Prince William "Billy" Charming, Ms. Snow White the teacher, and the Three Little Pigs who make up the police force. The sisters learn that they are descended from the Brothers Grimm, storytellers extraordinaire, whose books were based on real life and not the results of smoking funny mushrooms at bedtime. The Brothers Grimm had paid a huge price for a spell to be placed preventing the Everafters from leaving town - a spell that will be broken when the last Grimm is pushing up daisies.Naturally many Everafters are quite upset by the restrictions, setting the stage for the harrowing adventures that follow. When a giant kidnaps their Grandmother and her old friend Mr. Canis, the sisters swing into action after enlisting the help of the Magic Mirror, Puck of Shakespearean fame and of course Jack the Giant Killer.A fast an easy read, this book will test your knowledge of fictional character trivia, and have you reaching for book two.Amanda Richards, August 5, 2006

Not just for kids, these are fairy tales for all ages!
For anyone who hasn't heard of the Sisters Grimm Fairytale Detective books, do yourself a favor and get yourself the whole set! They are WONDERFUL! And they're not just for kids! The style is very similar to JK Rowling's Harry Potter series, and The Sisters Grimm are certain to delight children and adults alike! The books are told from 12 years old Sabrina Grimm's perspective. It turns out that she and her sister, Daphne, are descendents of the famous Grimm brothers who recorded many of the fariytales we know and love today.Sabrina and Daphne are apparent orphans whose parents disappeared one dark and stormy night. The police can't find any clues as to their whereabouts, though foulplay is assumed, so the girls are sent to live with their Granny Relda in Ferryport Landing. Relda is not your usual granny, and neither are the residents of Ferryport Landing. Most of the residents are fairytale creatures in disguise, and they've been living in Ferryport for hundreds of years, hoping to escape persecution and exploitation from humankind. There's a great and immediate lesson here of "otherness" and getting along with our fellow creatures, but Michael Buckley does such a beautiful job in weaving his own fairytale within this book that none of the lessons seem heavy-handed. Instead there is great warmth, humor and delight as Mr. Buckley keeps his readers guessing and trying to solve the mysteries right along with Sabrina and Daphne.I loved this book! And I had the good fortune of being able to jump right into the next book, The Unusual Suspects, which was fast-paced and exciting. The third book, The Problem Child, also just came out, and I devoured it in two days. FANTASTIC!Now, just like the Harry Potter books, I'm eagerly awaiting the next tale in The Sisters Grimm series.

Brilliant Beginning! Number Two- Yes please!
Happy ever after? It doesn't last forever.Sabrina and Daphne Grimm have a very appropriate surname to their history. Only last year, their parents disappeared, and after being sent to various unpleasant foster homes, they are carted off to live with their "grandmother"- who is suposed to be dead!Daphne adores eccentric Granny Relda, with her monstrous but friebdly great dane, her brightly colored food, and her talk of fairytales being real. Sabrina, on the other hand… well, SHE thinks they've been placed in the care of a murderous loon. But will her mind be changes when Granny gets carried off by a 200 feet tall giant? Can Sabrina trust any of the mad people around her- Jack, Beauty, The Magic Mirror, Mayor (formerly Prince) Charming, to name a few- or are she and Daphne surrounded by peiple who want them dead? Can she save her proven right grandmother, and protect herself and her sister from a dangerous giant?I am VERY like Sabrina, and found the way all the characters had such a weird twist to them really funny and made you keel reading to find out more. The characters were really vivid and imaginative, and the plotline was gripping and unique. You will like Daphne, Elvis and Puck, despise Jack and laugh at Mayor Charming, the Mirror and the three little pigs. This at first seems like an easy-to-solve mystery, but I was caught out, and was in NO WAY expecting the plot twists.Puts a much-needed girl power element in the Fairytales, and as a feminist, WHAT A RELIEF! Finally, we can get our kids to read these as a bedtime story, where they get the morals and characters, only not so sexist. If this book appeals to you or your kids, or if you like the concept but feel it could be better done, then why not try books like The Land Of Stories, or movies like Maleficent, or Once Upon a Time?I, for one, LOVE this book, amd was very entertaining, plus a rare book which I would rate 5-12. Now, I hope I have given enough info for you to scroll up and trg ut out…Yours Hungrily (as always!),the Bookworm On The Hillxxx

Grimm Beginnings
Entertaining I thought 'Oh a Grimm rip' off' until I checked dates and found it predated GrimmThe heroines of our stories are 2 young orphans or so they think to say any more on that score would be a spoilerThey are taken in by a grandmother who they thought was dead so they have some trust issues there then there is the fact kept from them that they were descended from the brothers Grimm and Ferryport where they have come to live is full of storybook characters which their family have been keeping in lineThey meet some of these characters including Prince Charming Puck the Three Little? Pigs and a giant among others a fun read for adults and children I am looking forward to the next book
