Museum: Bocca Della Verita' (The Mouth of Truth - Rome) Small [#423-MUM]

I had been looking for a Bocca della Verita for a while. It is difficult to find. The last one I purchased was over 20 years ago in Rome. It broke recently so I was looking for a replacement. This was the best quality at a reasonable price I could find. The workmanship is quite good for the price.

I bought one in Rome and it was solid. The front was similar but had no back you could see mould used on back. Would not buy again

One of my daughter's favorite pieces she saw in Rome was the Mouth of Truth. There are very few available reproductions so when I saw this listing I decided to purchase it for her as a Christmas present. The reproduction is true to size (8' in diameter and about 1/2" maximum thick); however the actual piece is not nearly as detailed as depicted in the product descritpion photo. Instead the hair detail is very much muted which detracts from the overall appearance. Note this piece is no inexpensive at $68 so I truly expected the received piece would look like that depicted. Therefore, if one must have a reproduction of The Mouth of Truth then this is one of the very few options available. As long as the muted detail does not bother you then feel free to purchase it. I am very glad I purchased the small versaion instead of the large version as at $248 and lack of detail would be truly unacceptable.
