I've only opened one up so far. It smells quite bad out of the package so it might be a good idea to let it air out well before you need to use it for food. I am using one to cover up my dog's food bowl while waiting for the food inside to defrost since I have some gnats going around in the house so I didn't bother in my case. After pulling the string on top it clicks and locks into place nicely. However, since it's pulled taut along the edge there are some gaps left at the bottom. The lace trim helps and you should check each corner of it to make sure it's pulled down rather than wrapped along the sides. Folding the lace inward under the net helps some more, but even doing that doesn't seal off all the gaps at the bottom. I think flying bugs like gnats won't get in but if you have something like ants to ward off this probably won't do.
