Salsbury Industries Mail Chest Pedestal, Black

I purchased a Salsbury mailbox and after it arrived, I realized that not only was the new mailbox going to look awful on the old post, it probably wasn't even going to fit well. So purchasing this post was an easy decision. Upon arrival, it was clear that this was high quality and very sturdy. However, it seemed a bit short for my needs. I then realized that I had purchased the 48" post, not the 60" post. Honestly I thought they were all the same -they are not, so make sure you get the right length. I was able to work a solution with the 48" post though and it looks great and is solidly planted.

The base is 4x4 tubular aluminum and 4 feet long.It is very robust and heavy.The package drop requires that almost 36” of the post be buried - one deep hole !Perfect if you live in a frost heave area.I cut some of the post off, since i didn't need a 3 foot hole!I mounted their largest package drop mailbox on top. It wobbles slightly when opened & closed, because the floor of the mail box flexes. They could reinforce the floor to prevent this flexing or provide a larger backing plate.

It is suppose to have the bolts with the pedestal, but it doesn't. You will need four 5/16” x 1/2” long hex washer head bolts. The pedestal is light. With the Salsbury Industries 4325BLK Mailbox, it is top-heavy. You will need to concrete it into the ground.

The pedestal was easy to install.After I pulled out the old post, I cleaned out the hole, cemented this in, and attached the matching mailbox with the supplied bolts.My only advice is "measure twice" on the height, taking into account the mailbox's slot is near the middle of the box and that the road isn't at the same height as the ground. The length of the post was fine for my situation, but installations in ditches will need a longer one.

Unit delivered in good condition. All hardware was included. Installation fairly easy...just had to tap one bottom edge of tube in somewhat so it would fit into existing cup/base. Looks good with large mailbox sitting in top!

I would have like it to be a bit taller so it could sit all the way down in the hole while you fill in with cement. It worked out fine, but took a bit of extra finesse to get it to sit at the right height.

We had to buy a board to go inside of this metal stand since we were not installing it on cement.
