Vital Merger: A New Church Start Approach That Joins Church Families Together

I would highly recommend this book to any church that is considering a merger. I think it is written in an accessible manner so that anyone could gather the information they need. I liked the real life examples that were provided. I thought that the resources in the back, and the connection to the website with downloads that you can use, were excellent.

This book does an excellent job of describing what types of mergers work and those most likely to fail based on the reason for the merger. It outlines in detail the steps to take to make the merger successful. Very good tool.

I found this book offensive . This not about how to merge churches. It is really just a plan to shut down small churches in favor of mega churches. It is overly self righteous and santimonious. It advocates being exclusionary and sanctions abandoning brothers and sisters who disagree. It also is antidemocratic and supports suppression of opinions that are not in agreement. It is the least Christian Christian book I've seen. It flys in the face of the great Methodist traditions. If you want Rick Warren go to Rick Warren but leave us Methodists alone please. Stop trying to plunder the assets of small churches to build your empires. WWJD? Probably throw up.

Very good book to use as a guide. It is important to remember that this book is not a manual for mergers and the contents are suggestion and examples of experiences in various churches.

My church is considering a merger and since I'm on the committee I thought it would probably help me understand what is envolved.
