Why does Amazon stop selling this item (& then start selling it again/then stop again etc)?

My opinion: Amazon prime customer since 2011. I've rescued, 'fixed' & maintained near 100 cats over this time, at personal expense. My retirement dream that country living allows, & the most orphans at one time is 15-20. I fed friskies cans for $11-12 per case (6-8 wkly) & Science Diet dry at $25/15.5 lb bag. (2a month) Price increased thru the years at reasonable time spans & rates. From 50 cent a can to 60 cent & remained for a long while & was always fair. NOW, I don't know this for a fact, I just know it's true: When AMAZON went from everyones' trustworthy online store to a Global Marketplace, the downhill slide came too fast & is still picking up speed.. Example, now paying for return pickups. Wasn't I paying for PRIME to avoid those annoying rules? Being older than some of the dirt around here, I no longer drive. Nearest ups drop off is over 20 miles. Having my share of bent & exploded cans, I never saw it as reason to stop selling such popular merch. That was an easy fix at warehouse/pkging level. NO, for me the biggest let down is the soliciting of outside sellers who buy up the product & gouge the hell out of the cost..often by 33%! This leaves Amazon free of shipping hazards & they still make money off their 3rd party sellers. Ingenius! When I got priced out of my cat food, it was so upsetting that I contacted a couple different sellers to tell them what I thought. I felt better but it changed nothing except that my opinion had been correct. Suddenly, Amazon alerts that "Your order is delayed. We are trying to get it to you., etc." I panic, every cat parent knows cats are sensitive to their food & changes can be bad, right? Wait! Behold! Here's another seller I can buy it from, whew! my B/P lowers. WHAAAT??! $38.00 for what was $15.77 last week? Someone call 911. I am thankful walmart has gotten into this game.

Are these grain free?

Ingredients listed: chicken broth, chicken, shrimp (tuna or salmon depending on variety purchased) tapioca starch, powdered cellulose, xanthan gum, guar gum, thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B1). Don't know what is considered grain but I can say that my elderly cats (16,17 & 19) love them and they serve as a "snack" between meals that tides them over.

12 cans for $44.99? that is ridiculous unless you mean 12 cases of 12?

I think it is a mistake. I bought 3 cases (24 cans in a case) for less than $35.00. 12 cases (144 cans) $44.99 would be an excellent price ($.31 a can).
