I play the alto recorder most of the time. This is a good collection of tunes that are really intended for the "C" recorder. Alto players will have to transpose up an octave when the low notes go below low F. It would be better for the soprano or tenor recorder.

Excellent songbook for beginners and beyond
This book contains a great selection of classical pieces. Not necessarily original recorder music, but music that is arranged well and sounds natural to the recorder. I really like how the selections are organized in order of difficulty and get progressively harder as you work through the book. The first few pieces have only a small number of notes and can even be played by an early beginner. Each page dials up the difficulty just a notch, and the melodies are lovely. A fantastic supplement to a teach-yourself course! Composers include Praetorius, Corelli, Bach, Beethoven, Haydn, Handel, Mozart, Grieg, and others.

Very useful for players who want to progress
I have found this book just perfect for my needs. The best part of this book is that the pieces are arranged brilliantly so that as you work your way through the book, you are systematically challenged by more difficult tunes and notes in the higher register almost without knowing it. I love the tunes and the variety of composers. The man who arranged the pieces must really know the recorder and what constitutes increasing difficulty for the player. I have not one complaint -- which is unusual for me!

Great Classical Collection
Has a great variety of music to play. Some of the pieces are quite advance...I am at a very beginner's level in playing the recorder, but some of the pieces look quite playable for beginners. The book itself arrived in wonderful shape, and I got it very quickly with some of my other purchases.

Great selection of classical baroque recorder music for the "post" beginner...
LOVE THIS! The usual suspects of the baroque repertoire - useful to have in your collection - great editions of classical favorites which are reasonably easy to play to stretch your boundaries - beginner and intermediate.... I am cheating a little and using this once in a while for my flute sight-reading practice and enjoying the challenge. Great for testing one's embouchure, articulation and flexibility as one progresses.Recommend.

Not that great
Really not happy with this book. To me, the recorder is not meant for classical music. Only liked a very few of the selections.

A good book
As what I would say a decent above beginner but not expert recorder player I found this book helpful. It most from easy to advanced in difficulties and was challenging at the end. would recommend this for recorder players who want to move beyond being a beginner to a new level of play

Good start
This book has got some good music. It's set up so the songs get harder as you go through, but the selection isn't phenomenal music. Some well known pieces, and a good starting book and book to have to learn. There are some other more interesting choices out there though

Not all the pieces readily fit the alto recorder
I am not sure if I am being unfair giving this item only 3 stars i.e. "It's OK". Let me explain. I had assumed, as this was a book of classical pieces, that it would be arranged for the alto/treble recorder. Whilst some pieces do fit the alto a lot are obviously arranged for the decant/soprano. At my count, I reckon 75 of the 125 pieces descend lower than the low F on the treble clef. This is a shame as the choice of tunes is excellent and varied. I do not know if all the pieces fit the descant.I do accept this is my fault for not checking. However, neither the book nor MelBay's and Amazon's websites site makes any mention of the type recorder(s) covered.I am a novice but believe the above to be accurate but am happy to be corrected.

Não possui acompanhamento do piano
Uma pena não ter a parte do piano para acompanhamento. Seria muito melhor se tivesse a parte do piano para acompanhar.
