Women: A Pictorial Archive from Nineteenth-Century Sources (Dover Pictorial Archive) Kindle Edition

I've used this book for many projects in years past. The old book got worn out, so time to get another!

I am absolutely in love with these beautiful images. My only complaint is that it came slightly crinkled and I wish that they weren't double sided pages since I will be using it for collages, that's why I'm taking off 1 star but would give 4.5 if I could.

It has a nice variety of subject matter. It will work great for collage. The quality of some of the images is not 100%. However, if you are doing it for collage, it will still be great even if you are using the images as your central figure. I do alot of cut and paste collage using just magazine images and a glue stick. This book is perfect for that. There is a very good variety of large and small images. Lots of in between to. The only only down side is that there are images on both sides of the page, so you must choose. Other than that, I am excited to get in it. I bought mine used and it was a great bargain. I do not think it would be a disappointing purchase for anyone using it for collage. I just really love it.

An absolutely stunning book filled with gorgeous wood engraving illustrations, wow! I love these books Dover puts together, as I own the Real and Fanciful Animals collection one, as well as Women Illustrators of the Golden Age. My only complaint about this book, however, and the animal one would be that I wish the artist's names were included in small captions near each of these illustrations. Or at least included on an index page on the back. I understand this is copyright free and archival works, but it would still be nice to see the artist behind each or all. Other than that, I highly, highly recommend this book, along with most other books in this series by Dover, as they are fantastic reference guides for current artists now. :)

Ok so great images but the pages are double sided , if you’re buying this as a reference book~ awesome ~ if you have intentions of actually using the images , again great stuff but you’re going to be making a Sophie’s choice every turn of the page , so ...

Pictures are perfect, but the pages are two-sided. Always wonder why they publish books with two-sided pages when title clearly says "to cut out". OK if you don't mind copying.

the other Dover Pictorial Archive came with discs, which made it easy to import into my computer for design projects.due to the outstanding price i can understand why a disc was not included, so i was ready to scan the images i liked, but the paper they used for the book is low quality, the printing inks bleed and the true lines were lost, the images are some what blotchy. The book are great if your ready to rebuild the images in vector, but the images as is will not match up with the crisp edges of the fonts you use while designing. over all i'm happy because they were priced so low and i always re-build Dover work in illustrator, but if your looking to cut and past scanned images into photoshop, the Dover are will look soft.

This book is great for those interested in artwork of the past, as well as those wanting to use these works to create their own art. There is a wide variety of different activities, poses, etc. the women are in. Most women depicted are white and straight-sized though. The book arrived in great condition and I am overall happy with it!

It does have some great images but my bugbear is that it's printed on both sides of the paper. So if you like both pictures, you have to sacrifice one or the other.

Anyone interested in this kind of stuff will love it. Visually inspiring and can be used for photocopying reproduction for your own craft purposes etc.
