A Slow Boiler
Overall an excellent read. It took me awhile to get into the book. I'm not sure if it was the book or that I didn't have time to read in bigger chunks. By the halfway point it had become quite gripping. A fascinating history of pioneering women whose story deserves to be told.

History comes alive
A forgotten piece of space history. A worthy read. These women definitely require a special place in NASA history today.

An unknown piece of space history
This is a very well researched book that is both fascinating and infuriating. Thirteen very qualified female pilots tested (successfully) for the astronaut program and were ridiculed, mocked, and dismissed. The heroes of this story are Jerrie Cobb and Janey Hart, and the villains are John Glenn, Jackie Cochran, all of NASA, and the "social order" of America. "...NASA's dismissal of the women was part of a larger system of social bias that restricted women's opportunity in nearly every aspect of American life."It's a highly recommended read that is a sad commentary on America and its prejudice against anyone who wasn't/isn't a white male.

Hindsight is always 20-20
Today we look back at the prejudice of the day and wonder how it could have been, but was. The tenacity and purpose of these woman was great and should not be forgotten, this book helps that. Great read

MERCURY 13Inspired to dream and encouraged to achieve: Women in NASA
This was an enlightening, educational, and inspiring book about women courageous and determined enough to push for recognition of dreams, skills, strengths, and abilities against the "social order" of the normative woman's place: marriage, housework, and child care. It's a history of women taking their place in the exploration of space.I loved this book and have been talking it up everywhere I go: doctors' offices, gym, shopping for groceries, library, hair salon, to friends, and family.
