nice
It is very long lasting, like many months of daily use. It is quick and easy to lather, puck does not get soggy with use. It makes nice lather and has mild smell. It is not the thickest or most luxurious foam out there, but I have no complaints.

This Stuff Really Works (at Least for Me)!
I've been meaning to write this review for a while. I was very skeptical and worried about switching from regular shaving gel to this, but to cut straight to the chase: this stuff works for me and I absolutely love it. I've been a Gillette Shaving Gel (Sensitive Skin formula) since I started shaving years and years ago. Nothing else ever worked quite as well. Shaving creams didn't do it for me, only shaving gel and only Gillette shaving gel. But I was always aware of how harmful that stuff can be. There are a lot of nasty chemicals and toxins and additives in most popular brand shaving creams and gels, and our skin absorbs that stuff quite readily. The research on such matters is pretty alarming. Anyway, that put me on the lookout for a healthier alternative. For years. I had a hard time finding anything. Then I found this Badger shave soap. I waffled a lot on whether to try it. Shaving is such a delicate balance of the right ingredients and process that I was reluctant at first. My facial hair pulls and produces razor burn easily if I don't get all the steps just right (i.e., hot shower to open pores, lots of water, ample gel lathered liberally, etc.,). I'm telling you all this to illustrate the expectations any new shaving lather would have to meet in order to win me over, and I also mention this in case your shaving process is similar to mine. The reviews on this Badger shave soap were quite mixed when I stumbled upon it. Many folks said it flat out didn't work for them. That made me all the more reluctant. But I gave it a shot. I never let my beard grow out more than 2-3 days, but it grows fast. So, I took this soap into the shower with me, rubbed it into my stubble directly on my face, lathered some more on my hands, and massaged all that lather (face and hands) together before starting to shave. To my amazement, the razor blade glided as smoothly as it ever did with shaving gel. (I use a Gillette Fusion razor.) Given the number of reviewers for whom this product didn't work at all, I was very surprised by how well it worked for me. Maybe the liberal amount of lather I use is the key? Even so, this bar lasts a long time. I've been on the same bar for a few months. In summary, I'm a true believer now. This soap works for me and is everything I wanted. However, a few important things worth noting: (1) the soap does leave my skin every so slightly drier than shaving gels did, (2) the scent smells good, but it's a little powerful, and (3) there is a pre-shave oil and post-shave oil that Badger also makes, I tried one or both of these (I can't remember) but have found they don't really add much to the experience. I tried putting the oil directly onto my face, but that was kind of a messy ordeal since the mouth of the bottle is wide and I was trying to negotiate this in the shower. Then I tried storing my razor with the blades soaking in the oil and that was fine, but I don't think it made the shaving any smoother, so I've omitted the oils and only use the soap now.

Excellent protection. Lasts months.
No more canned shaving creams for us. A little goes a long way. Skin feels moisturised afterward. Keep it in a ventilated soap dish outside of shower to prevent waste. One bar lasts a few months if used once a week. The ingredients are cleaner and safer.

Does not lather very well
I am a head shaver and I gave this a very real review. I can tell you this shaving soap smells great, and lasts a long time. My issues is the lathering is not as good as I like. I have to keep reapplying it as I shave. It seems to dry disappear as I am shaving and I am constantly working the brush and adding on. If I finish shaving the side of my head, I have to stop and lather more up to reapply. Shaving your head takes time as it is because your hair grows 50 different directions on your head. For a good shave you have to go against the grain. Having to reapply and brush up more lather every couple minutes makes it 15-20 minutes to shave my head and I really don't like stopping constantly to brush up more lather. If you are a face shaver, or younger person with a softer beard, this may work just fine for you. It has good ingredients and smells good. Unfortunately, it does not work that well for me. Everyone has preferences, so you may want to try it and see if it works for you. It is definitely priced well too.

Pleasantly surprised and converted
So like mini I read the good reviews, liked the idea of being able to just lather the soap straight onto my face rather than use a brush with a little tin receptacle to put liquid shaving cream into… I became skeptical as I started to attempt to lather the damp bar on my face. It would dry out pretty quickly so it definitely took some effort to get a good lather across the whole face. But from then on out it was a completely different shaving experience than I've ever had using creams or whatever other random soaps were lying around in a pinch. I use a safety razor set up and the thickness of the latter combined with the stubble required frequent rinsing –a small price to pay for one of the best shaves I've ever had. Usually just for a work shave, I'll go over everything once with the grain and accept that tiny tiny lack of closeness that I get when for more special occasions, I'd make a second pass against the grain to get the closest shave I could. I don't know how the soap works or how it does it but I got about as close as a shave going with the grain as I would my previous two pass method. Certainly there are some spots where I could feel some roughness and could've gotten a bit closer with a second pass. But this was certainly a big upgrade for those one past kind of days. I think while the rubbing in takes a little bit of extra effort, that actually serves to prime the hair and hair follicles better for a closer shave. And honestly I probably could've used a blade switcharoo and had even better results. Pleasantly surprised and converted. Bar gang for life.

I got this for Travel
I got this for travel so I wouldn't have to deal with the liquid limit of 4 ounces on any carryon a plane. Actually, I purchased another hard soaps for shaving but this Badger Shaving Soap was my favorite. Now I use it regularly in the shower (I shave in the shower so I can rinse off properly). I don't use a brush and bowl. I just rub it on my wet face and shave. I don't care about any lather because my methed works great.
