Adequate, cycles off and on, not consistent heat
Remember when you'd plug in a heating pad, and it would keep the heat level you set it on until you turned it off? I do. Then the early ones with safety shut offs started, and they seemed to hold the heat consistently and the shut off feature did make it safer. But now, the last several heating pads I've had (due to chronic illness, I use mine a lot) cannot maintain the same degree of heat. I've tried different brands, but either they get very hot and then shut down quickly, or they never get to a good temp, and still shut off before the time is up.This one has a 2 hour shut off time, but after 15 mins or so, the heat stops- and has done this from DAY 1. Then it comes back on... but never reaches the same level of heat again. Eventually I just shut the damned thing off, and turn it back on again, so it starts its cycle over. That works for a bit, but I sure wouldn't give it five stars! I shouldn't have to do that to maintain heat. With the same level of use, older heating pads would last for years. Now, you're lucky to get 2 yrs out of one. I will see what I get from this one.The three stars I'm giving is because it's no worse than others out there. But it certainly is not desirable. If anyone knows of a GOOD heating pad, one which gets sufficiently hot, STAYS at that temp, and eventually shuts off (I think that's required now) I'd love the recommendation.UPDATE: I'm only three months into this pad and I'm giving up on it, looking for something that will get hot, not lukewarm. It never gets hot enough, and the heat it does achieve holds for maybe ten minutes, then it goes to barely warm. As I noted before, I shut it off and turn it on again, which SOMETIMES causes it to heat up a bit more. I don't recommend it and I am looking for something better.

Quality product
I had been experiencing severe back pain (thoracic and lower back) and decided to order a heating pad when my doctor suggested me to take hot massages. This is a good product. It relieves me of my ache and reduces soreness to a large extent. It has 3 settings for heat - low, medium and high. The low setting is so low that it doesn't produce much heat at all. It probably feels like a mild fever heat. Medium and high settings are fine. It also has an in-built auto shut off circuit so no real danger of over-heating or it catching fire, etc. All in all, a good quality product.

It works, but isn't very well designed.
It gets warm, and it turns off automatically, as advertised, so that's good. The single snap on the fabric envelope doesn't do much to hold it closed, and I'm always having to adjust and reclose it; the edges of the pad that stick out are jabby. The cable is very stiff and unwieldy, which can make the pad difficult to use. I spend more time than I should wrestling with it.

Works well
It works well. Instructions say to only put it ON TOP of you, never under. That makes no sense to me. I couldn't lay on my stomach and place it on my back for any length of time. I place it under my back like I have done with every other heating pad I have ever used. With that being said, I wish there was a lower setting. With it under my back, even on low, it gets very hot. If not for that, I would give it the 5th star.

Not as great as I expected
Although the heating pad gets pretty hot, I hate the fact that as soon as it gets hot, it cools down and fluctuates from hot to cold. When I'm in pain..I need it to STAY hot. I hate the constant temp changes. If I wanted a lower heat, I would change the settings myself.

Really like this heating pad, works great
This is a great heating pad, the temp selection is a nice feature, it lays flat and I especially like the 2 hour shut off. Only reason I didn't give it a 5 star is the snap is not real strong and I have to keep re-snapping it. I may have to add extra closures of my own.

Decent, but a step away from what I was hoping.
I used this in my hospital room during childbirth. Thee nurse acted like she didn't notice... Which was nice. It gets nice and warm, but it's a bit too small in my estimation and I didn't quite like the way it fit inside the cloth cover. Decent overall, but I would likely go with another brand in round 2.

Urgh. It smells awful
So disappointed. My old sunbeam heating pad was great but this one smells yucky. The wire and plug smell like toxic chemical. I've aired it out for a long time but it still smells like vinyl chloride.
