Came in today and tried it out right away on some blocks of cotton wood I have sitting around. Overall I like the unit, pretty easy to operate, there are four different modes depending on the type of wood you are testing but not sure what difference it makes. The modes primarily dictate the measuring range it seems like. As far as accuracy is concerned, it is important to get the sensing pins in to the wood, they recommend about a quarter inch, the end grain is the easiest spot to do this. I took measurements in different spots on the same block and they all came within a few percent of each other, I think that is the best way to do it and then average it out. When testing on the face grain I got a lot lower readings which is related to the fact that I was not able to get the pins in near as far, so keep this in mind when testing your wood. I will be using this to test wood blocks to see if they are dry enough to put them on the lathe so this unit will be perfect for me. If you do not want to poke holes in your wood or need higher accuracy then look at the 300 or 400 dollar models, however, accuracy really depends on proper placement of the probes.I read some reviews complaining about the pins, these seem to pretty sturdy and a set of spare pins were included. I guess it depends on type of wood you are testing (hard or soft) and you want to make sure that you push the unit straight in and not at an angle.....

Bought this for testing firewood before use in a indoor fireplace. It was eay to use and I liked the large LED read out. However, the housing is plastic and cracked after less than a week of use and the prongs receeded into the case. Would purchase again if the product was redesigned to be more rugged.

Great meter - I use it daily. It is accurate and reliable. Only thing keeping it from 5 starts for me was that you have to remember to hold the power button down for a couple seconds to turn it off after using. If not, it stays on eating away at your battery.

This wood moisture test meter works consistently and appears to be quite accurate. It reads in 1/2 percent moisture content and does so on a very consistent basis. The user is offered 4 settings to choose from that relate to the wood species. A small paper table is included to help the user determine which of the 4 species settings to use. It comes packaged with replacement pins and an attractive carrying/storage case.Using my band saw I cut a 14" apricot tree branch into 1" thick slabs. The center boards all read the exact same moisture content. Next I put 2 of the slabs into the kitchen oven for 3 days at 125 degrees. (My wife wasn't very happy about this scientific experiment.) After 3 days the oven heated boards measured the same moisture content and it was lower than the non oven treated slabs.For the price and features, this handy meter can't be beat!

I had this for about a little over a year and used it VERY infrequently to check moisture level in firewood. I always stored it indoors without the battery connected. One day I needed it, so I reconnected a new battery to the leads, then minutes later the unit began giving off a noxious odor and caused the battery to exude battery acid or something. Whether or not I just got a bad apple or this company makes junk, NEVER AGAIN SONIN!

This product works great. I use it on hard cord wood cut for burning. Let's me know when it's seasoned or not. I like the case it comes in and has an extra set of prongs. My only complaint is that it didn't come with the 9V batter it requires. Otherwise great product.

This meter works very well with a wide range of different woods on a list that comes with the meter.It has four settings from very soft wood, to very hard woods, and works very well on all. It also comes with an extra set of pins in case you bend one somehow.Yes I would recommend this meter to a friend.
